Talk about other artists here (even though they all rip off Meshuggah)

"Trains" by Porcupine Tree is pretty good, other good songs by them ? not melancholic ? (I HATE melancholy)

Sorry, the only one I can think of is Piano Lessons. That's pretty much it.

Mastodon- All The Heavy Lifting

The Hunter is pretty different (as are all Mastodon albums), but it's still the 'Dong.

Try Deadwing; it's a superb album, but without any real 'depressive' moments. Stupid Dream is great too, but the last track is melancholic... make of it what you will. In Absentia, the album Trains is from, is arguably my favorite album of all time - though I can't really recommend it to you based on the fact that there's some very dark/melancholic material on it. Really, all their albums are great, but stick to the first two I mentioned if you don't want to run into any of the more depressive material.

As for myself:

I just recently started familiarizing myself with Steven Wilson's long-dead IEM project (thanks to Slatewoman for reminding me about it), and I have to say, I'm loving Arcadia Son as a whole. The others releases are alright/have a few moments of brilliance, but this seems to be the only one that's consistent all the way through. Shadow of a Twisted Hand Across My House is a crazy good track...

Okidoki. I know many Dev heads have been PT fans for a while too, so there's probably some great tunes, even though when I listened to their music it didn't grab my attention, until Trains the other day, so now that I'm hooked on this track, I'll check out some more. Dankeschön :)
