It's great! Focused, catchy and as mentioned the songs don't wander aimlessly for too long. They've done crazy proggy stuff before where they pick a groove and sit on it for 17 minutes. Why do it yet again? Eg on other albums Curl the Burl would have had several pointless breaks and another huge solo (I LOVE Brent's solos, but there's a time and a place). As it is it's a catchy little song with a killer groove that stops just when you want a bit more - perfect!

Okay, upon further reflection, this album kicks a lot of ass. I still prefer Crack the Skye, but it started to satiate a side of my musical habits that Queens of the Stone Age hasn't in a good long while, so yeah, I dig the shit out of it. There's filler, but when it's on, it's on.

It seems, without knowing a good goddamn thing about the process that this is more of a Bill Kelliher album, what with his health problems and everything. Crack the Skye was obviously Brann's baby, and I can't speak for the rest of the material. Creature Lives also is surprisingly personal in a way that's not lame at all, I mean that song is triumphant as fuck considering how far gone those guys were at one point.

On constant repeat... It is an absolute crime that these guys aren't absolutely massive. What a song...

I'm almost never listening to anything when I see this thread for some reason, but the new Animals As Leaders track is playing at full volume in my head :D
