Talk about other artists here (even though they all rip off Meshuggah)

Quite honestly, though, and I swear I'm not exaggerating, it sounds like a bunch of monkeys slapping on instruments randomly with a far too loud-in-the-mix spoken word piece over it to me.

But maybe that's just me :D

Metallica will never sound like they did 15-20 years ago. And if they tried to, it would be kind of ridiculous.

I feel like they tried with Death Magnetic. And, All Nightmare Long being case in point, I fully agree, it was completely ridiculous.
I don't mind progressing and moving on musically (I mean, I'm a Dev fan so pretty comfortable with that) but in Metallica I feel like they didn't so much progress as back peddled. All through to the Black Album there was this incredible progression, BA being the most radical and still an incredibly good album, but after that things didn't progress, for me any way, and became a muddled shadow of a band that had created some of the best songs ever recorded. In my opinion, anyway, and that's all this is.

I'm both, so I guess I'm in the minority. Have my Megadeth moods, namely when I'm a little angrier, and have my Metallica moods. I'd pick Megadeth at present over Metallica at present though. Probably the opposite for their 80s output.

I could never get into Testament. Just never clicked with me.

Go back to Colorado.

Edit: but seriously, my Dad's band's old drummer woulds bros with Alex, so they were always around, and I always just kinda liked them better, to be honest.

Liking this.

Not bad. Personally, I'm not going to hold any opinions until the actual cd is released. But I don't mind it, its just different, which was expected anyway.

Currently listening to the new DT album, A Dramatic Turn Of Events.

Its alright, still following in their metal style, which isn't too much of a hassle for me. Some beastly tracks and cool ballady stuff. I do like how Jordan Rudess has stepped up more on the piano work/keyboards. Plus, Mike Mangini seems to fit in well with the rest. However, one of the drawbacks I've found is they're starting to recycle some of their riffs and song structures from earlier records. Take for example "On The Backs Of Angels". Just listening to the intro and the solo before the chorus, it all sounds similar to "Pull Me Under".

All in all, I reckon its a good album to listen to here and there.

Totally agree with this, though even in my angrier moods I find both bands fit the bill (vintage material, of course).

New Vader is still pleasing my ears, though I am playing it alongside some other new death metal releases as well, just to see how the all compare.

In fact I'll listen to them now.

Listened to them whilst on the drive from Tennessee to Maryland.
