Talk about other artists here (even though they all rip off Meshuggah)

I've been listening to a lot of this album for the better part of a month now. Weerd Science was Coheed and Cambria's old drummer from years ago, and his debut was one of the few rap albums I've really enjoyed front to back ever. Just being honest, as I've never been a huge fan of rap to begin with, but there was something that drew me to his strange paranoid self-deprecating rage. Anyway, his debut was 2005. 6 years of a drug-addled self-destruction later, he's come through the tunnel with something that's something of an inadvertently amazing concept album of his descent into drug use and the state of substance abuse in the world today. Half of the album was written and performed during heroin withdrawal or high on cocaine, and he had initially thought he'd rerecord a lot of the verses at least. Eventually he decided to push through with what he originally pulled together, and I think it's the right choice.

It's a tremendous album if you're open to it. And this is coming from a guy who owns like 6 rap albums.

This one builds beautifully, while basically remaining very low-key, and sounds better with repeated listens.

*and Kimbra is drop dead gorgeous.

Liking this.

Really? I found it borderline unlistenable.

See I would say the same but Metallica hasn't sounded like Metallica in 15 years. So I guess I shouldn't have expected any different for this release. Quite honestly, though, and I swear I'm not exaggerating, it sounds like a bunch of monkeys slapping on instruments randomly with a far too loud-in-the-mix spoken word piece over it to me.

But maybe that's just me :D

Metallica will never sound like they did 15-20 years ago. And if they tried to, it would be kind of ridiculous.
