Talk about other artists here (even though they all rip off Meshuggah)

They don't have a vocalist for at least 25 albums that I know of.

Check out Pungent Effulgunt or The Floor's Too Far Away... or, any of the albums really. great stuff if you dig that kind of thing. Ideally experienced live in a field at dawn while tripping off your tits but groovy in a home environment too.

Yeah, their catalog is pretty overwhelming. I decided to play it safe and start with live albums, they should present some decent selection of their stuff. I already have Live at Pongmaster's Ball (that's 2CDs) and Sunrise Festival nicked from rapidshare (good I finally found the DVD version in store). Great music, I developed minor obsession over "Eternal Wheel" and its swirly synths, gotta add Erpland to the wishlist.

There's a 'best-of' double CD called 'Afterswish' which is a really good overview of their early-mid career from 84-91 (from the early trippy, swirly, psych-prog days through to the later proggy-psychy, swirly trip style).

Especially in comparison to Dave Grohl. I mean Grohl is a pretty good drummer for what he does, but he's not really that great of a song writer (some parts of Probot and The Colour and the Shape aside.)

On another note, I really didn't like Them Crooked Vultures.

I dunno, maybe it was just overhyped to me.

I still havent given them a listen, but I should considering I like a lot of Dave Grohl's work and almost everything Homme does.

It's not that he isn't a great songwriter. I just don't care. I like what happens when they collectively assemble into Them Crooked Vultures, and I like Grohl and obviously JPJ on their own....but Kyuss, Queens? Yeah. Don't care.

Edit: I should add that I have a bit of a resentment against Kyuss and Queens because I used to be in a band where the members were hellbent on changing me, shoving both bands like that down my throat along with tons of indie bullshit like Shellac and Sonic Youth, and they kept trying to get me to buy a Vox and a Rick...or some other vintage instruments. I couldn't be me, so I quit. Funny thing is, now I would LOVE a Vox and a Rick. LOL. But I still don't care about Homme. I'll take the Color and the Shape over anything he does....anyday.

The way I see it, Queens of the Stone Age have only 1 good album (Songs for the deaf), the rest is utterly boring. Which hasn't inspired me to check out Kyuss. Add to this the fact that QOTSA live is a sleepfest to look at and that Homme is a total arrogant cunt, and you'll come to the conclusion that I'm far, far from a Josh Homme fan.

Dave Grohl is a completely different story. Great frontman, lots of energy and always cracking jokes on stage. Doesn't take things too seriously (how he played Satan in Tenacious D's video, and he wanted to be played by a female actress in the Kurt Cobain movie). He's supposed to be 'the nicest guy in rock 'n roll' (only Courtney Love disagrees) and I really like the Foo Fighters. Plus, he's hot.

Them Crooked Vultures didn't do much for me though.
