Ocean Machines & L.A.

I've finally gotten around to checking out some of the Devin extras like the Ass-Sordid Demos and Infinity/Christeen EP. I've only actually heard the first Sordid, but two tracks that instantly just blew my mind were "Ocean Machines" and "L.A.". First, I naturally have to ask if anybody else is blown away by these two tracks in the same way I am. And secondly, if I may ask, how come these never made it to studio releases? Were they not thought to be good enough? "Ocean Machines" is, to me, probably going into all future Ocean Machine listens (perhaps after "Hide Nowhere" or before "Voices in the Fan").

Sorry if this is a duplicate thread, BTW. ^_^

I am also in love with Ocean Machines. Dev does however explain on the actual Ass-Sordid CD REPLACE that he felt the song was too long to fit into the album.

I guess I could understand that. With the ending trio of "Funeral", "Bastard", and "The Death of Music", I could see how that would've been hard to fit in.

Ocean Machines is one of my favourite songs off any of his albums. I wish the production was a little better though... If Devin ever were to redo a song, I would vote for Ocean Machines. :)

i could see ocean machines using a bit of a trim but otherwise i think it's CD quality. most of the other songs on assordid were just never finished.

if he were to ever redo any of these songs i'd vote for "i am"

Ocean Machines is a fantastic song, but if he were to redo anything older...I'd say "My Girl", with Terria or Ki style production values.

The Ass-Sordid discs are both packed full of quality tunes... To be honest I wouldn't want em to be re-done, ever. They are what they are and a hell of a lot of em don't need any going over to sound fantastic, in my opinion.

Ocean Machines is one of my favourite Dev songs! The only downside to it is that it's VERY long! While I don't mind that, while you're playing it to someone, they'll get bored after 3 minutes and walk off :x
