The place to speak about Dev's current projects, and everything yet to come

Yo folks!

So here's a request:

I've got so much music that I don't really have too much perspective on it. Some stuff we don't know, maybe the stuff that would be good to learn is some things I haven't considered. I tried to learn some heavier stuff, so we know that end of it now...

Taking into consideration what we currently know (The Aus set is what we know currently...) what would be a good 90 minute set? (2 hours is too long I think...)

Please if you want to, make a set list for us...keep in mind that the set currently is a bit over 2 hours, and it's not a ton of songs... for example, Color Your World is 10 minutes, Earth Day is 11, Deadhead is 10... so it adds up...

Please tell me what we should learn in your opinions! Thank you.

Oh my I have been waiting for this moment for quite some time

My dream set list (in chronological order, arrange as you please)

Image

Total Time: 1 hr 57 min

And just because I probably won't get this chance again, or at least for a while, I would like to say how much I love "The Fluke!" One of my favourite songs of yours!

Looking forward to all your albums in the future, man.

EDIT: I would have included stuff from Synchestra, but I am led to believe that is out of Dev's capabilities right now due to file incompatibility. If it were a possibility though, I would throw in Triumph, Pixillate, and Notes From Africa. :D

I did it by making a playlist in the Zune software, but I am sure the exact same type of list could be made in any program such as Winamp, foobar2000, iTunes, Windows Media Player, etc :)

My friend Dave asked you about Cooked on Phonics during the Melbourne signing I believe. I think you should play at least one or two songs off Cooked on Phonics. It'd be a good break from the metal. Not sure how the audience will respond to them though...

Also, playing the original version of Disruptr instead of metaling it up would be great. The current set is just a bit too heavy!

I'm not an Aussie, so I don't know what you're playing over there...but I think this would be a pretty killer set (in no particular order):

Life - 5
Bastard - 10
War - 7
Om - 7
Namaste - 4
Deep Peace - 8
Stagnant - 6
Storm - 5
Triumph - 7
Judgement - 6
Sunset - 3
Coast - 5
Hyperdrive - 4
Universe in a Ball - 4
Supercrush - 5
Sit in the Mountain - 4 (I think this would make a really cool encore)

And that's about 90 minutes. Although, I'm assuming there's an easy way to get the files for Synchestra running on your Mac, and Ziltoid & Ki seem under-represented. I'd still enjoy it, though--hope you're having fun down under. :D

I think this would be a killer 90 minute to 2 hour setlist:

Seventh Wave (opener?)
Truth
Bad Devil
Coast
Terminal
Ki
Life
Regulator
Bastard
Material
Earth Day
Deep Peace
Nobody's Here
Stagnant
Color Your World/The Greys
Triumph
Deadhead
Kingdom
Supercrush
Hyperdrive
Numbered

i put what i'd consider to be the more mellow stuff in italics to make it easier.. The set's a little over 2 hours and not really in any order, just songs I think would be great live.

While not exactly a set list, here are some few songs I'd love to hear live that you don't seem to have done recently/ever:

Ants
Irish Maiden
Planet Rain
Deep Peace
The Fluke
Nobody's Here
Tiny Tears
Away
Gaia
Pixillate
Notes from Africa
Resolve

Also, seeing as this is a wish list, why not Almost Again? I know it's an SYL song, but it's gets pretty close to your solo work, and is such a good song. Also also, By Your Command and Earth Day from the current set make me beyond happy.

So if you could have that list sorted by Saturday when I see you in Auckland* this weekend, that would be great kthx**

*flying across from Sydney, was working in Kuala Lumpur for the weekend while you were here. Who does your scheduling anyway? They should be shot for not running it by me first.

**joking, obviously.

Ok, so, I made a 90 minute setlist for you Dev...I tried to order the songs based around songs that build the crowd up, reel them back in, build them back up again for a big finish...I know I'd be having rapture-seizures at any rate...I've tried to include as much as you already play now to minimize the stress of learning new material again. Hope you guys like it!

1. Truth - 3:58

2. Storm - 4:38

3. Regulator - 5:06

4. Kingdom - 5:55

5. ZTO - 1:18

6. By Your Command - 8:10

7. Hyperdrive - 3:48

8. Deep Peace - 7:35

9. Stagnant - 5:26

10. Bastard - 10:17

11. Disruptr - 5:49

12. Addicted - 5:36

13. Nibz (Supercrush!) - 5:11

14. Numbered - 4:54

15. Ki - 7:21

16. Gaia - 6:03

17. Sit in the Mountain - 3:16 [one of my all time favourites, and would be AMAZING to encore on]

Total time = 90 minutes!

This is what I thought of:

Of course, personal preference dictates these things a lot. I think Sit in the Mountain would make a really good encore after Awake!. Also I'd love to hear Bastard live, but as I don't think Devin's ever played it live I've kinda given up hope. My setlist is about 1:20, so there's enough room to play with it a little. I added Echo as an interlude to space out the heavy and give the band a chance to breathe. Things Beyond Things is in there to space it out too... Ziltoid's a bit under-represented, but like I said, there's a little time for something more in there.

In no order:

Soul Driven- 5:15
Sit in the Mountain- 3:25
Color your world- 9:44
Dynamics- 5:10
Storm- 4:39
Hide Nowhere- 5:00
Bastard- 10:17
Mountain- 6:32
Triumph- 7:08
The way home- 3:14
Voices in the fan- 4:39
Ki- 7:21
Coast- 4:36
Truth- 3:58
Lady Helen- 6:05

It's about 85 minutes. I left some time open for in between song banter. :D

Seems a few choices may be far fetched, but hey...with your sampling capabilites, anything is possible. Thanks Dev, this was fun.

Hm, here is what I would kill to witness :

1. Life - 4:32

2. Greetings - 2:53

3. Truth - 3:59

4. MATERIAL - 2:47

5. Devoid - 1:28

6. The Fluke - 7:17

7. Stagnant - 5:26

8. Suicide - 6:45

9. Traveller - 4:13

10. Color Your World - 9:45

11. The Greys - 4:15

12. Hypergeek/Triumph - 9:30

13. Notes From Africa - ~5:15

14. Trainfire - 5:59

15. Ki - 7:21

16. Hyperdrive! - 3:34

17. Bend It Like Bender - 3:36

TOTAL TIME = 1:28:35

So yeah, I tried to keep it pretty mellow (had to cut on some of the heavier material but I countered by picking some of the most uplifting, happiest songs ever, like Material, Traveller, Notes From Africa and Bend It Like Bender!, you know?). I didn't know though if you wanted to play exclusively new songs and stop playing others like Truth, which you seem to play quite often, so I took no chance and left songs from the last tour (even though Kingdom and Supercrush! were the best songs I've ever heard in any show, ever), except for Truth because it's some kind of trademark I believe. AND it sounds STELLAR. Definitely a song to be heard live.

Also, I display the songs here in chronological order so everything can be changed. And I'd probably choose from Life, Stagnant, Notes From Africa and Bend It Like Bender for the encore.

Lastly, if the setlist is remotely close to this, and the sound is half as good as it was when you came to Montreal in January, I think I will have a smile on my face for the rest of my life, regardless of all the shit that could ever happen.
