In the late 90's I remember or think I remember hearing a story that Devin was asked to join Judas Priest after Rob Halford left but turned it down. I think they were impressed by his vocals on the Exciter cover (although I've recently heard about some Sinner cover I didn't know about). The role went to Tim Owens. Can anyone confirm this? I meant to ask him when he was on springform but forgot.

Yes, I can confirm this. Not hearing about it in the late 90's, but I've read about it online, in an old interview with Devin. He thought he wasn't suitable for the role.

Yeah, I think Jugulator is their weakest album so good decision on his part. I'll need to dig out these interviews. Thanks guys.

it'd just be yet another thing Dev sang on for someone else.

That said, Jugulator with Dev would sound kinda HAARHT-esque, and I'd be interested.

Probably for the best that this never happened, even if the covers he did are some bitchin' cheeseballs!

Devin, owens, and scheepers would have been better than halford in preist imo, except halford on painkiller which is all people ever judge halford by. Devin is a far better singer and although it would have been a cool opportunity I'm glad he didn't go that route.

I have never found this - quite a lot of people dislike Halford's singing there and instead judge him on Sad Wings. Although I think Devin would've been bad for Priest and Devin himself I'll not sure he's a better singer as such. To me Rob seems more naturally gifted and I suspect has/had a wider range but Devin can also do a lot of different styles with his voice and I do think has more emotion. Regardless, they both most be among the top 10 metal vocalists ever.
