what would you think of Devin on Pledgemusic?

So I finally got around to pledging for Ginger Wildhearts' 2nd pledge campaign and it got me thinking that this would be the perfect venue for Devin to release something like Ghost 2 or Obviouser if he can't get a record label to release it. not sure if ghost 2 would work if the record label already owns rights to those songs, but it could even work for Z2, combine it with ZTV or something. I have no doubt most people here would sign up for something like this and he can probably make a ton of money because a much higher percentage goes directly to him.

thoughts?

Previously discussed here, although there the topic was to get rid of management altogether which I strongly doubt is a good move.

For releases the label doesn't want to back it may be an option, but then I suppose the label might not like it very much that Dev is working on things they'd rather not see him spend time on (since otherwise they'd back the effort). So I dunno, might work if they can come to an agreement on that.

Then again, the label is aware of the sort of variety in music that Dev can put out (and at an alarming rate really) so surely they'd like to release and sell as much of it as possible. ;)

maybe for something like a Ghost 2 or the next ambient record, like a release that maybe management/the label couldn't get behind 100% (I know Dev ultimately ended up not loving Ghost 2 as well), that wouldn't see the light of day otherwise.

I'd give Devin a few bucks to hear Perspective.

I think we all feel the same way.

sorry, should've done a search first. never check the generic devin townsend section. I figured there would be some conflict w/ the record label but it would be a nice way for him to release anything not backed by them (he self produced devlab, asd, etc) and would be very entertaining and worth the $$ to watch videos of him in the studio. maybe some day.
