Hey all,
On the even of the official Epicloud release, I thought I might pose a fun idea to you all. See, one of the other communities I've been a member of off and on over the years is an Iron Maiden message board that once suggested (and no one but me followed, it seems) that on the arrival of a new album, you start from the beginning and listen all the way from either the Soundhouse Tapes, or Prowler off of the first Iron Maiden album straight through til the final track on the most recent album (at that point being The Thin Line Between Love and Hate off of Brave New World). This is something I've done with every Iron Maiden release, but never thought of doing for Dev... UNTIL NOW. I'm going to go through Dev's discography from start to finish, in the timeframe that I'd normally listen to music. The idea is simply to just kinda see how an artist changes over a couple of decades with a ton of different material to choose from.
Fortunately, unlike Maiden, there's no Blaze Era or No Prayer for the Dying to deal with. Though some may be troublesome (I'm looking at you Physicist!)
Now the rules are simple
1) Don't do anything stupid in your life over this.
Like, you can go outside, work, you can hang out with friends, and you can do whatever you want. The idea is that you'd only be listening when you normally would anyway. You're just choosing the order of the music you'd listen to for the next 18-22 hours of listening time or so.
2) You're not required to listen to EVERYTHING.
Look, I'm drunk on my own power/harddrive here, and I will be including as much material as I possibly can. The demos or bonus tracks aren't required either, though I'm listening to them. But the ambient material is so out of left field in comparison to the rest of the material, I'm not including it.
3) Strapping is purely optional.
I'm opting out of Strapping for this, because Strapping is in of itself a different beast, and doesn't really jive with the flow of the solo discography, except for maybe HARHT. I'm also skipping Steve Vai, because some of the demos predate that era, and some exist afterwards. It hurt my brain to think about, and I really only like 5 songs off of that album anyway. I'm listening to Still my Bleeding Heart right now.
4) The only prize is a handshake and a nod if I ever run into you in person.
Also, you just chose a wonderful way to waste your time, really, there's nothing productive that's worth doing out there that you could've focused on.
My listening order with required listening for the challenge being in bold.
1) Ass-Sordid Demos
2) Ass-Sordid Demos 2
3) Punky Bruster
4) Ocean Machine
5) Infinity
6) Infinity Demos
7) Physicist
8) Terria
9) Accelerated Evolution
10) Project EKO
11) Synchestra
12) Ziltoid
13) Ki
14) Addicted
15) Deconstruction
16) Ghost
17) Contain Us/Ghost 2/Terrorizer/VIP Materials
18) Unplugged
19) Epicloud
20) Epiclouder (THOUGH IT SHOULD BE REQUIRED BECAUSE IT IS AWESOME)
Good luck, and yes you are a nerd.
