The place to speak about Dev's current projects, and everything yet to come

Damn. I just wrote a long post about this, but it seems to have disappeared into the ether! Oh well, it was probably a bit TL;DR, anyway.

Here's the short(er) version.

I've been a Devin fan for about 15 years. I'd seen SYL once, but every time I tried to see DT/DTB/DTP something went wrong, like I lose my job, a family member would die, etc. This time I was confident that nothing could go wrong, and even got the nerdy VIP meet & greet pack...

I was planning to go over to Seattle just for the night, but my wife wanted to go to Seattle and do tourist things, so we got a nice hotel, and stayed a few extra days. I was going to leave town a couple of hours early and walk to the gig, but she insisted I get the bus, and asks the concierge at the hotel the best way to get to the venue. She seemed to think this guy was like the fountain of all knowledge... turns out that all he was spouting was shit!

I got the exact bus he told me to, and it was going fine at first. Then the driver got on the highway, and wouldn't let me off. He ended up dumping me in West Seattle, with 10 minutes to get to the VIP meet & greet. I waited ages for the bus, but nothing showed up, and there was no timetable. Two taxi firms refused to come to that neighborhood, and the third taxi never showed up! I was going completely nuts at this point! Full on Hulk time!

Anyway, I finally found a bus that took me close, and got there at about 6:30. The instructions on my VIP email stated very clearly that I can to be there at 5:30, and the guys at the door just told me to get in line and ask when the ticket guy was there. I eventually got in at about 7, when the tour manager came down and gave me the OK.

I'd clearly missed the meet & greet, but at this point was just happy to be let in. The show itself was great. I'd never heard of Stolen Babies, but they were decent. Paradise Lost were top notch, despite the fact that only me and two or three other people had ever heard of them. Katatonia were a great closing band, but DTP really stole the show, and about half the people left after they were done.

Anyway, after the show I was wandering around trying to figure out how the hell to get out of the dodgy industrial park where the venue was, and I bumped into a crowd of people gathered around Devin at the back door. I'm a pretty shy/nervous guy (I have issues), so it took me a while to pluck up the courage and go say hi. When I did though, I told him my story and he was like, "Oh, you're Ed from Twitter, your wife Tweeted me and told me about what happened, that sucks!" and then took me aside so I could chat with him privately for a couple of minutes, and so he could sign my stuff...

... I can't remember exactly what I said, but I'm am pretty sure I talked a lot of nonsense, and babbled like a madman! He turned out to be super cool, and really made my day!

Love iiiit :D He's very good with remembering people from the net he's interacted with, which is not the easiest thing to do. Glad he went out of his way to sort you out, he's a top geezer!

Yeah, I prefer to avoid public transportation when I can after I had a bad experience after a U2 show in Chicago at Soldier Field a few years ago. We had to get back to the station before the last train left at midnight, and with 50,000 people leaving the stadium at the same time after the show there were literally no cabs to found within miles of the stadium. And we didn't know the bus routes, either. We walked for close to an hour but were still miles away from the station, but luckily we found a "livery" who got us to the station with moments to spare, otherwise we would have been stuck in Chicago overnight until the morning, and I had to work the next day. One of the guys who went with (the one whose idea it was to take the train) went to another show there a few months later, and this time he did get stuck overnight.

So, traffic be damned, I'm driving myself down to Chicago Monday for Devin!
