I have NO authority here, but I say go for it! :P
Just how many polls would you need for that though? D: I can imagine it would be quite a mess.

First thought is 'this is impossible', but as it's a tournament, I'm quite up for it.
I'd say put the intro songs and the 'followers' together. I'm not sure how to work that out with Color Your World/The Greys though.

They'd have to be separate. They go together well, but they're clearly two different songs.

I mean, wouldn't Ghost just be... all of Ghost if we followed this principle?

The current plan is to put all the polls on a separate site and link them to here. Sure, it could be time-consuming, but then again, I have nothing better to do (especially in class, where I just sit at a computer for seven hours and occasionally pretend to pay attention to what my professor is saying).

Very good point, sir. I think I'll just leave them as is.

What is the consensus on Devlab/Hummer? Include them or no? I'm leaning towards no.

That would not only take forever, but it would be quite convoluted. The only way I could see that working is if I give each album an automatic four songs, but I feel as if that would be less fun, and reduce the variability of the whole thing.

If you wanted to do this you could save yourself a lot of hassle and just go through all the individual album subfolders around the forums... Every one of them is gonna have a favourite song poll so you could just take the songs at the top of those polls and then put a superpoll up here of those tracks for people to vote on. I thought this had already been done but it's possible that the suggestion was thrown out there and we were all just way too fucking lazy to bother doing anything about it...

I thought about that as well, and I still might do it that way, but the plan was to base the seeding for the tournament based on a series of polls that had all been conducted at the same time. For example, the poll for Terria was apparently started all the way back in 2004, while Physicist was only started in 2009. I'll weigh the pros and cons of doing it in both ways before officially deciding one way or the other.

And Punky Bruster currently does not have any poll for best song. There's a thread about the "Best part of Punky Bruster," with a grand total of 12 posts in it. Synchestra hasn't seen much discussion at all recently (November 2010 was the last post in that thread), but it has a functioning poll nonetheless. So maybe I will just do a poll for Punky and run it like you're suggesting. It would actually be a lot easier (although some of my favorites wouldn't be on there...like Night, for example).

One more thought occurs: There is ONE poll in the SYL section for favorite song. It's in City, and barely anyone has voted in it.

Maybe the selection committee (me) may have to take a few liberties with that regional :P

The other thing I thought of is inconsistencies with the poll formats of each album. Some of them ask you to pick your top three, while most just allow for one.

You know what? The more I think about it, the more awesome this seems to look. It could work if there is a thread posted in each album section with a link to the central thread. And then there could be a main tournament after that. But I'm not sure if forum participation would be high enough to make this last the whole way.

that sounds like a really good idea, best of luck to you keeping this organized and I will definetely participate in voting.

personally, i see no reason to include devlab or hummer. i'd go so far as to say punky shouldn't be included either but could understand if it is. are you gonna include "bonus" or non-album songs (i.e. Japan, nerd alert, christeen EP, contain us, etc.)? assorted demos? could get too complicated if you do but just a thought.

I'm going to go with "No" on the bonus songs and demos, including Contain Us. Then again, I can't stop listening to Idom from the "Mikazuki In Rock" soundtrack album (If someone can somehow conjure up a physical copy, I would worship them, because I can't find it). And I could understand Punky not being included, but I feel like that one should go in. The way I am seeing it right now, Punky would probably get two songs into the field of 64.
