Understand how detailed Devy's music really is

Just loop any 2-4 second section of any of his songs. There is almost guarenteed to be something in there you haven't heard. And if you do that then afterwards you get a greater awareness of the whole album as you carry on listening, because you realize how much is there.
I discovered this trying to work out the guitar solo to "deep peace." The tabs that are out there aren't 100% accurate, in part because of the notes, but also there are subtle variations on the timing I didn't notice before. And also, the backing stuff is much more complex than I realized. Some of Devy just sounds like noise (umm.. parts of Deconstruction?). But if you tune in, you can hear that the noise is made up of lots of elements.
Take the Devy challenge - Can YOU find a bit of music in his entire career that isn't zealously over-produced to the utter limit?

I guess Dev's composition/production style is very much influenced by film making more than other musicians. You know when you watch an epic film for the second time and notice something you didn't see before? I think it's that idea...sometimes you'll notice the extra stuff immediately, sometimes you'll never notice it, sometimes you'll notice it at a totally random point, but the fact is that it's there! Gives it a much more atmospheric feel!

The Supercrush protools skool video was amazing - i thought, if i would be a musician, i would have made at least 4 different songs out of the different layers...

+1
Which leads me to a question I might soon ask on Dev's Formspring : Has he ever shown any interest in making movie scores / soundtracks ? Has he ever been approached to do so ?
Anybody knows if this has been asked before ?

I think it has been asked before, it's either the case of waiting to be approached or a company willing to be open minded to his process. Or something like that.

Wow, movie scores...he could totally do it brilliantly, but if the man starts up one more project I'd be concerned he might implode.

I see. Thanks a lot for the info

I'm sure he could release a bunch of soundtracks between his next album and the subsequent tour - just for fun, as a recreation - just like Danny Elfman did while he was leading Oingo Boingo

Oh, he's gonna be scoring my film about swans that have been genetically engineered by top secret royal scientists to eat the working class' faces. When we finally make it.

Sounds like fun
Now that you mention it, last time I've been to St James Park, the swans looked hostile, as if lusting for man's flesh

Our aim is to uncover the conspiracy. We KNOW it's happening, we just need other people to get the idea in their heads.

One of my Formspring questions to Dev was about scoring film. He answered me saying he would love to do it and he said something else. I can't remember, I'd have to look for it but I don't feel like looking. Formspring needs to have a question search option.

We're not gonna use real swans in the film, it's gonna be hand puppets. Rhomboid for on-set catering?

If you have an account, you can access the questions you had asked.
