How does Devins music make you feel.

Ok, we all know that there are a lot of people on this board and beyond that have been affected in minute and major ways by Devy's music. There are many adoring fans and many skeptical critics, lots of devoted praise and lots of close minded over-analysis. But what I would like to discuss here is how it has affected you personally.
Maybe 'discuss' is the wrong word. What would be cool, if people are cool with it, would be if you could attempt to explain your personal reactions and mental counterbalances to hearing Devins music and the impact of those reactions on your lives.

I am aware this is a very personal thing to ask of everyone but I think for most people this could be a valid outlet for feelings they previously couldn't find a place for.

Delete this thread if inappropriate. :)

I'd go with the little boner, but things don't work that way for me...

I'd say it makes me happy. I don't listen to music that's gonna make me angry...sometimes certain songs will evoke strong emotions (fuzzy in my tummy!), but it doesn't mean it's made me sad either. Listening to The Greys live made me a little teary, but that was probably the extreme combination of awesome tunes, adorable munchkins onstage, being surrounded by cool buddies in a room full of smiley people.

So I say yeah, Dev's tunage makes me a happy Violet :D

incredibly good.

that's the only way i can think to put it. no other music gives me such a strong feeling of euphoria. there's nothing quite like the feeling of rocking out to stagnant, material, life, or slow me down (or countless others) when you're in a good mood on a sunny warm day like today. when i'm bored at work, i listen to it to make the time go faster; i listen to syl a lot while i work out or when i'm pissed off and want to get out some aggression, synchestra is ideal for running. when i'm in a sad mood, a lot of his music makes me feel better and calm. music like "so be it" helps me relax. i guess it makes me feel important, somehow. like there's someone else out there that i respect and that goes through the same mixed emotions as i do and it's comkforting and it takes away all the bad things in life and just makes you feel... good. ha i wish i was a writer so i could express myself better.

Dev's music is great for no matter what kind of day it is, what mood you're in, whatever event or lack thereof - there's always a Dev song that can correspond. It evokes, and sometimes returns a sense of "normality" and balance, and enhances my emotions for the better, something few other bands/artists I listen to can provide. Like many others, I feel happy when I listen to his music, even if I'm listening to extreme SYL - of course these days I prefer his solo or DTP stuff (naturally).

what it does make me feel is just about everything depending on what song/album i'm hearing :D

what it does NOT make me feel is the same feeling for 50+ minutes :| devin's music is definitely not monotonous on an emotional level. so many bands put out music that doesn't vary on an emotional level hardly at all throughout the course of their albums, and i find it really difficult to listen to that kind of thing anymore. i really need that emotional ride in order to stay attentive to the album. dev is a master of that kind of thing, and i think that's why i've become the dedicated fan that i am.

Depends on the mood I am in. His work with SYL is always played when someone or something provokes my bubble of neurosis. Songs like "Skesis" kind of defines that mood: An irrational lashing of paranoia and, "controlling an awkward soul". His solo stuff generally calms me down. It's a no brainer Ki is a GREAT record to tone down the noise and just become at peace.

A lot of Dev's stuff makes me want to dance. Addicted is probably the worst album for that and there have been moments at my desk at work when the head and feet start going and I don't notice until the odd look from a collegue. Synchestra has quite a few moments like that too. Ki mostly just relaxes me, slows things down at little. Ziltoid just sends my imagination going, so I'm ususally entertained by that one.

I like the fact that all of it, I could just lay there, listening to an album and do nothing else. It demands my attention without actually feeling demanding. For me, that's the perfect balance for any album.

Yeah, that for a start... :)
I love music, many different kinds, and perhaps that is one of the reasons I love Devin's music sooooo much. No matter WHAT I am feeling or thinking or doing, I can find an album that totally works for the moment. I can honestly say that I enjoy everything he has created musically, and I love his style of production and his creativity. The fact that he makes himself unbelievably approachable and generous to his audience (despite the fact that I really think he more of an introverted sort) only adds to his appeal. I love to sing (no comment on how well), so it is equally lucky that I find his songs, well, singable. So. I will stop gushing. Glad to be in such good company here.

It makes me feel like a llama, a free llama, roaming free through of fields of wild flowers and elderberries

Bizarrely enough I just got a llama and it is going to live in a field of wild flowers bordered by elder, all of which is in flower at the moment. Perhaps I should play it some Dev.

I feel immense.
I feel like I could swallow the entire universe.
I don't know how to put the feelings to word (I know this is cliche but it's just it).
I feel like I'm bigger than life itself.
I feel powerful in a way that nothing could affect me.
Like I could die while listening to the song and still be alive, if this makes sense. Haha.

Mostly like this.

idk

I always have felt his music matches my range of emotion. :P

Although, I must say, I identify most with Infinity, Terria, and Ki.

And every once in a while I go Heavy as a really heavy thing.

Hard to tell tbh. He has done a lot of different things, so whenever i feel sad or happy or stoned, it's not annoying to have some Master Pieces in ears.

Dev's God.

When I'm in a bad mood I always put on angry music to get some release,
usually The Haunted's rEVOLVEr, Bloodbath, Meshuggah, Lamb of God,
old SlipKnot (95-01), and of course the mighty SYL. I used to start with
SYL right away but I don't any more, and here's why:

I put on angry SYL. Then after a couple of songs one comes on that's
not as angry or there's one of those references to another song that
pops up and then of course I have to listen to that one. And then
before I know it I'm sporting "Sunshine and Happiness", singing along
and everything is top notch again.

Love it!

Edit: I can also listen to angry music when I'm happy. Then it instills (sp?)
a very nice feeling of "Fuck ya'll" and packs my entire being with the metaltude.

In a good way of course. I'm a fairly pleasent person. :D
