The place to speak about Dev's current projects, and everything yet to come

Shocked and dismayed at the blatent piracy people are indulging in, I've long set myself up to wait until June 20th (or later) before the CDs get into my hot little hand - and thats what I'm going to do.

I know this thread is well ahead of the release, or even the pre-order date... but no doubt there are ninjas who will get in early.

I'm pretty keen to see who is putting their money with their mouth is - post here when you officially own Ghost/Decon... evidence of which one first if possible. Given its likely the biggest fans of DTP have sought him/them out here, so the likelyhood is the first legit owner is likely to be a member of this forum - so bragging rights of being the first to own these new album(s) "in the worrrrlld" should be able to be done here.

I'm interested to see where and who get in first :) Are the release dates EST? Or will those of us down under (NZ lead the international charge for time travel) be the first to be able to own?

OK, so if you download it - you're still going to buy it?

We get this on here every time a new release leaks.

Basically, while the majority of folks who post here actually give a toss about Dev and wish to help him fund/generally support him in what he does...Those who consider themselves 'fans' will pre-order or purchase Dev's work when the time comes.
At the end of the day though, curiosity and anticipation have a tendency to get the better of us sometimes.

Taking a moral standpoint is cool and all, but people will be people and it's inevitable that some will choose to download said leak. Whether they buy it or not later is up to them, and as Dev himself isn't too fussed about it- No pressure, no stress.

I hope you enjoy it when it arrives, hope it doesn't melt your mind too much on the first listen, as has been the general reaction. Not sure on the release date/time thing I'm afraid, I'd assume they're EST just to be on the safe side. :)

^ Thanks, good answer :)

Bear in mind I am a newb here and didn't know that was the culture, and I am looking forward to the album as much as anyone here and was somewhat shocked everyone is just downloading it (or that its possible to!) - so many people I know of IRL have done so with albums "to try before buying" and then just complacently carry on with it after the fact. I am not going to take a moral highground or anything like that, do as you wish... I guess the first I ever heard of DT was from someone who had downloaded a bunch of SYL and DTB stuff and played me some. If it wasn't for this, I'd never have heard of him and as such has its place.

I downloaded Decon, then turned around and ordered two shirts from the store. I will pre-order the albums, and I guarantee I will buy a few extras to give to friends as well.

I have my own morals. There was no way I would have downloaded the album without giving something back. That's just the way I roll. I don't expect anyone else to do the same, and I don't blame people if they don't. Money can be tough to come by. Paying for something you may not even like is silly. If people downloaded for free, but hate it, should they still have to buy a copy? I would think not.

I'm not gonna lie. When you have a 500GB MP3 player (thank you Archos <3) it's not all gonna be bought. But if I truely love a musician for what they do and wish to show that, I'll support them any way I can so you can bet your buns I'll be the first to get any new releases. I'm also majorly impatient though :B Rest assure if someone's a fan enough to join a forum and spend their spare time talking about a musician, they're more than likely gonna buy the stuff. I wouldn't worry about downloadings by forum regulars anyways. (besides, DTP get cake from me, that's a pretty decent compromise?)

What has fucked me off though, the album's already on Youtube and despite me asking the user to at least take it down until preorder starts, he refuses (more than likely the "IN THERE FIRST!!!!<1¬!" attitude). It pisses me off that Youtube don't even give a shit (I'm talking about all musicians here), it's just become an on demand free music streamer. At least downloading requires effort!

Well thats the primary thing that has got me really, is that its not even supposed to be available and its freely available to listen to. It doesn't sit right with me If people are able to thashed the hell out of something and get the "honeymoon period" out of the way before its even available to buy.

Ignore me, I'm clearly an asshat.

I have a great deal of confidence that Devin Townsend fans have the utmost respect for the man and the music. I've downloaded the leak (haven't listened to a note of it yet, but expect to tomorrow). I wouldn't dream of stealing from Devin Townsend--I'll undoubtedly be buying these albums, and likely a couple shirts at the upcoming Orlando show for my girlfriend and I (would love to buy one of the guitars I've heard may go on sale if I can get the money together). I know many of us feel indebted to him and would like to give him all we can afford. I'm "shocked and dismayed" that a fellow fan would suggest that we don't intend to purchase these albums. We all know that Devin isn't amongst the likes of Nickelback, and we certaintly want him to be able to continue doing what he does one hell of a lot better than they do

Downloading illegally and buying legally are not mutually exclusive.
I'll just leave it at that.
