sounds like Ghost 1 is the Album that I was wishing for ever since I have heard the song 'Two Weeks' for the first time. Awesome!

and all the other stuff that won't be released now would have been sweet but maybe it will see the light of the day sooner or later anyways...we can only hope

It'll show up, for sure. I guess the thing I'm digging now is relentlessly writing and recording, and not being to concerned on where it fits (or in some cases if I even like it...) then, when it's time to illustrate a document of that period of time, I've got a bunch of raw, and unedited emotional moments to draw from.

As is the case with Ghost, I started thinking it would go one way, then when I went away and had a chance to reflect, I think I came to the conclusion that I was including the darker material to satisfy those folks who are probably not going to like Ghost anyways. So I figure if I want to hear a beautiful record, just make it happen. And do it completely. Chances are, the people who won't like this album won't be swayed by a few tracks that kind of instill the whole 'eerie' vibe anyways. They're good songs, but distracting when I want to stay on the same plane as the really nice stuff.

So making that decision, I just went into the 'vault' so to speak, and corralled the tracks that gave me that same feeling, of which there were more than enough. The result with Ghost 1 is probably a lot less 'song oriented' than I originally had planned, but really... I trust the vision, and if it wants to go to places that are a little more floaty and nebulous, then so be it. I'm just making sure it's engaging and not just a ramble. It's a fine line with Ghost in kind of the way that Ki was... if you lose sight of the final intention, it can quickly become boring, but if you capture the subtlety, the elements that could make it boring end up making it really work.

Quiet music is harder to do than loud I think, subtlety is not as random as you (or I) may think.

Ghost is turning out to be one of my favorites I think.

Its cool that you've refined Ghost into something closer to the original vision now, but what are you plans for Ghost 2? Seems kind of strange to release it as a DTP afterthought, an odd bunch of songs which didn't fit into the 4 records thematically and became a sort of byproduct... well, I'm sure you'll think of something.

I'm guessing it's Decon that's gonna be the biggest surprise. Judging from a couple of snippets and a couple of other (unrelated) postings recently. Sure I think it's gonna be heavy as, but also somewhat obscure (Mr Bungle obscure) which may well please the masses. Either way it should be very interesting, I for one, am eager to hear Ghost (1+2) in parts, free form similar that of Ki....maybe I'm just getting old.

THis is the sort of thing that happens when art and business collide... it must be frustrating to have all this material, and know that there are thousands of fans who want to hear it, but not be able to just push a button and have it all released.

I'm looking forward to a box set, I just hope it doesn't end up costing too much... and I still really want to see some sort of Ziltoid production, be it a live show, a long-form music video, an animated cartoon, graphic novel... something.

I really do hope that Devin makes enough money from the vinyl issues that he and the labels will release further material on vinyl... especially considering that most people who are buying the vinyl have already bought the CDs, this could be a good sales boost that requires little in the way of promotion and advertising.

At least it sounds like the labels he's dealing with are letting him be Devin and do his thing, it could be worse, he could be hooked up with a label that takes what he wants to release and says "Umm... we'd like for you to get rid of tracks 3, 6, and 7 and replace them with something more mainstream".

Yeah, it's good that I'm doing it now, without the Deconstruction haven taken place. There's no fragments this way...

Ghost will be a record that I'll be surprised I was able to make I think... It's a hard one to do because I like noise so much, but I likel istening to quiet more... so if I don't knuckle down and focus on the subtlety, I won't have something nice to listen to...

ahhh shiiii....

Man, for my part I'm 100% certain to love Ghost 1+2. I don't think I'm gonna love it more than Decon or any other record. I know you're making it with your guts as always and that's what makes it so awsome.

As for the subtle part of the music, I find it incredible that a guy who has made the craziest/heaviest stuff I've ever heard is able to write such sweet pieces like Terminal, Lady Helen... Geez, even Ih-Ah (this song makes me thing of my gf and it kinda makes me cry...)

And by all means if the writting process is good for you, then it can't be bad for us right?

God, I'm so looking forward to the next releases. 2011 seems ages away...

uh, what? No, people are not buying records and DVD's more than ever before. It's a common fact that the CD sales have been cut into half in the 2000s. And no, legal online downloading does not compensate... No offence, but check your facts... Geez...

None taken ;) facts checked, it's the official numbers in Europe at least. But numbers can be interpreted different ways. Proportionnaly it's true tht poeple are not buying more cd's. But more cd's are sold than in the 80s or the 90s simply because of slight population growth and because the poeple who buy them are generally younger. In the 60s you were lucky to get your first vinyl at the age of 16. Now parents buy cd's for their kids when these are 10 yo.
Now I could be wrong but in that case French government and press are wrong. I don't know... I didn't count them all right?
And don't you have to pay for "legal online downloading"?
Debate is open ;)

Still most of the music that sells is the mainstream you see on TV and hear on the radio. (Jusbin Beiber, Hanna Montana, Shakira ect)

floaty and nebulous is exactly what I was hoping wouldn't be completely overtaken by acoustic-style songs. I'm enjoying this news.

I disagree with their thinking here...I think that this is what you are famous FOR! Eclectic, varied, surprising. These are things that make you unique, and that should be encouraged.

In general though...great news, with a slice of bummer. Still great though!
