Uhm... A DTP webcomic would be great, hun? These four, plus, i dont know... "The Angry Lads"? And Ziltoid himself? I like the Idea! I'm afraid I dont have much time to do it all alone ( I Work as a professional Illustrator and have two ungoing webcomic series [ wich a friend is translating to english. my english is pretty bad, ahahaha, as you can see]) but, if someone thinks that could help me with the plots, I think this can happen!

Hahaha, unless you're talking about that bit in The Mighty Masturbator, there isn't a drum machine on this album.

What you guys didn't see the video where Dirk broke down while drumming and had to be repaired. Hummm I thought everyone had seen that one. haha

-Ki is awesome. It is so rare where I see one of my favourite artists take some risks and dare do something different. Terminal always brings me to tears and the second part of the album is mind blowing. I like the "tension" on this album.

-Addicted: I love only 1 or 2 songs on this one... I skip the rest... And I find this album over-produced, it lacks an organic feel. And also, I miss the "prog" vibe on this one. Great album, but nonetheless the one I dislike most in Dev's discog.

-Deconstruction is killer! Seems like a tornado in my ears! I don't know what bad I could say about this one... Maybe more place for the guests? But I think I never read Dev's feeling about this one. I read him saying he loved Ki and Ghost, but except for the technical difficulties recording this one, I don't know if he actually ENJOYS this one and/or is proud of it...

-Ghost: Super! Once again something unexpected... But I don't understand why this album is called "Ghost"... I find it has a very "water-y" feeling... Reminds me of Ocean Machine but more atmospheric (even the artwork)... And this song "Infinite Ocean" RHAAAA I always close my eyes and fell like I'm floating with the tide, dancing with seaweeds on a coral reef with myriads of colours... so beautiful!!

Overall, Dev proved he can take risks and I think he gained thousands of new fans with these 4 DTPs... When I see a band like Symphony X release such a predictable album after 4 years...
I'm looking forward to hearing what's coming next (Z²? Epicloud?)

thank you Dev, for the great music!

Ki
I really loved Ki from the very first listen. It surprised me and just captured me with being such a complete unit, with it’s own style – I’m not really sure how I’d categorise it (apart from awesome!). Completely blown away by Devin’s vocal performance on this one too.

We’re now 2 years on from it’s it’s release and it still gets massive numbers of repeat plays so it’s standing the test of time.

Addicted
Despite being the most obviously immediate of the 4, it actually took a little while for Addicted to grow on me. Once it did though, the amount of pure rock out fun this album has given me is legendary.

More vocal gold from Devin here! And I’ll probably get shot for saying this round here, but hey, I love Devin’s voice, and I think I’d have loved this album even more if he did all of the vocals. But, that’s not really what the whole DTP experience is about, so no major complaint.

Deconstruction
Very intense, but totally not in the way I was expecting from the few snippets I’d read. Took me about 3 listens to even begin to work out what I thought of it.

I was quite sceptical about Decon…a serious amount of hype floating around…lots of guest musicians, who although largely people I’m a big fan of, doesn’t always bode well for a good album. But I was completely and utterly wrong, pure awesomeness. This album just has this glorious feel to it.

Yes, it’s indulgent, it’s over the top, possibly not the most tasteful album ever, but my god it’s enjoyable!

Ghost
I had a wonderful moment last week as I was walking out of the house on my way to work with Ghost on the ipod and it was the first time I’d felt the sun on me all week, it was just a really beautiful re-emergence, which is what this album represents to me.

Lyrically, this one has moments that are really touching me personally to the point where I’ve been in tears a number of times while listening. Having had the most turmoil filled year or so of my life in between Addicted and Decon/Ghost, this album just feels like it reflects where I am now trying to come out of that. Every moment of it is just so beautiful!

So overall, my big fear about this project, was that by having this set plan for each of them, it would lead to a less organic creative process and having things feeling forced. I guess what I’ve always loved about Devin’s work is that I’ve felt it really organically brought together so many things into this one cohesive unit. I think the results have been quite the opposite of my fears, they are a purely honest and natural output of one man’s creative force. Every one of Devin’s albums has touched my life, and I’m so glad that that’s continuing to be the case. I feel like each one is an evolution and changes along with my life. I’m not sure the DTP albums are going to have the same place in my heart as some of Devin's other work. But then I love them in a different way and they have a whole new place all of their own and that’s the real beauty of it - these albums are about capturing now.

This has been a seriously interesting listening experience, and once that’s going to provide plenty of entertainment for years to come. I love that these albums each have their own flavour, but are still very much connected and I think it’s very much true that the whole is even greater than the sum of the parts. Each one has surprised me in being different to what I expected, which is a very good thing. To me, the reason that Devin remains at the top of today’s music artists is defined by this whole project. He’s not played it safe, he’s done things his way, his done something challenging and surprising. Like some people have already mentioned, it does really feel like a journey. I’m just thankful to have Devin making music that challenges and that impacts me in a way that no-one else can. As always, I just can’t wait to hear what’s going to come next.

Roll on Devember and the opportunity to share the journey with a bunch of people here and witness it performed live by a man who is so on top of his game it’s frightening!

Ooooh, I wrote way more than I intended, sorry!

Love all 4 of them, not sure how I would rate them yet, but Ki is at the bottom of that list, not sure of where to rate the 3 others.

Ok, now I just remembered, I have not heard Ghost yet, so the 2 others then.

I see them as albums on it`s own. I`m sure that "4 albums in a story", or the 4 albums relating to each other means a lot to Dev himself but it makes no sense to me at all. I just don`t get that part of it. I can with some good will see the connection between Addicted and Deconstruction, and between Ki and the tracks I have heard from Ghost. But all 4 of them? No. Anyway it is not important to me. the albums are outstanding, and that is what matters.

Heard 4 tracks from Ghost, but I`m saving the whole album to late summer/fall. From the tracks I have heard that seems like the right time.

Anyway 4 album "in the box" or not. It`s been interesting and exciting to see these albums evolve. Thanks Dev, you are brilliant!

A edit, or add on. I wrote this about Addicted in the "Devin on production" forum.

One album I would remix is Addicted. if you hear the video where he is tracking guitar for Resolve and Universe, I find that to have a much more pleasant "rocking sound" (although the quality in itself is a bit low) to it than the final album that has a very plastic, cold..calculated production. The sound turned out far too futuristic and industrial. I love the album, but I was very disappointed with the final production. I would at least replace the drum sounds as they contribute a lot to the production being the way it is.

Haha, thank you! But, I don't know about that... The illustration is a bit to much "Cartoon Network", don't you think? Can you imagine children asking their parents to buy the box? "Dad, what is a Mighty Masturbator"? But I would love to do an exclusive art, who knows?

Tonya Elf wrote:Samuel, your illustration is FANTASTIC! I checked out your website...WOW! :)

Thank you very much. I'm translating this webcomic to english, soon I'll post the link here, if you want :)

Sorry about the grammar mistakes.

KI...just ok. Understand the concept...but that's not where I am in life. Trainfire, Ki own....winter if not so repeditive could be best.
Addicted....rules. Everything about it. An album I've waited for someone to do since 93.
Deconstruction....long acceptance....then genius revealed. Only repeat 2 songs though.
Ghost....very appreciated album, and glad devin made it for himself. I play basketball in the evening in the driveway to it.

All I can say, is this guy changed my whole music world. Every album is worth a hard copy. Its not always what I expect, but always delivers satisfaction.

Ki- Goes deep in the period of life i had when it came out and i love it. It's a piece of gold on a beach.
Addicted - I prefer to laugh and dance to it. It's cool :)
Deconstruction - Music can't possibly sound biger than this untill the day some dude samples supernovas and elephant farts. Fav album of 2011 so far. The message is making me realise a bunch of thigs that i really don't want to realise during this period of life, witch makes me a liar to myself. I'm a young dude full of questions and I have a hard time considering that the journey i've been of for a good while will probably end at the very same place I started at. Now when i'm smoking with my friends talking about for example string theory related to cymatics/fractals and how the universe is created ectect i quickly realise it's very silly because I will never find a proper answere and will only by the end get a headache. All these thoughts are taking a very big space in my head, still it's fun to think of :) So to me Deconstruction is a big FUCK YOU, *fart* AND I'M AWESOME!
Ghost - Still discovering it :) From what i've heard I really like the bonus stuff, Mend, watch you, fall.
Overall it's all a huge work and it turned out completly different of what i expected and got even better, be proud Devin! :)

Wow that drawing is freaking awesome, do want a t-shirt with that on for sure :D really captures the spirit of each album xD

I've been listening to Deconstruction A LOT since I got it, I get to the title song and just feel like the whole album has a sense of relief to it like you have poop'd out all the chaos and whatever inside and you're left empty and you don't feel sick anymore. Some parts of Decon just blow me away every time. 'Oh my god it's happening once again, wasting my life with the worn designs' part and everything, about a 16 minute song- never seems that long, probably the best song of it's length I've heard.
