Maybe the topic title itself is a bit aggressive, but the truth is we don't necessarily all think individually that every song is as good to us as others may be

For example, I love Physicist, but I don't necessarily think it's in nearly the same class as Ocean Machine or Terria.

Just another topic to talk about Dev in, because we all love the work so much.

Way to respect others, buddy.

Only talked about Devin's own stuff, not really a SYL expert

All of what I consider non-songs such as Tall Late.

Poltergeist, War, SDC, Ants, 3 AM, all the songs of Ki with screams, Babysong, Random analysis. The Hummer, Devlab, Punky Bruster and most of the demos except for Soft and Sit in the moutain.

Quiet heavy with screams just doesn't work for me for now, maybe it will come. I can recognise disrupt is interesting live, but that's it. I enjoy Ki as a quiet/relaxing album a lot more. Poltergeist has a vibe I really don't get, too aggresive in some way. (Coming from someone who love City)

Love all the rest tho !

Very interesting anwers here, would have not expect to see Slow me down so much, but i'm really a cheese ball

I like Terria as a whole, but I'll generally listen to the tracks 4-7 then call it a day :D

I can't listen to any SYL albums all at once, at most I can stomach 1 or 2 songs before I can feel my internal happy-vibe being disrupted  Even then, I have to play happy music afterwards to kind-of mend together my frayed emotions.

On AE, I generally skip Deadhead and Suicide, as I'm not big into depressing music, no matter how well-written and ear-pleasing it is. In fact, the only two tracks off AE I usually listen to are Sunday Afternoon and Slow Me Down, and sometimes I'll listen to Away just to kind of set the vibe up for Sunday Afternoon (I love those songs, best off AE by far in my opinion). The first few tracks on the album are alright, though I don't get awfully giddy about them by any means.

Beyond those examples though, I have to listen to Dev's albums as a whole :D Strangely enough I love the darker songs on Ki, just because I know that the songs on the 2nd half of the album sound so much more amazing if you tank the heavier ones beforehand. Hard to say if I like Ki or Synchestra more, both are like perfect apples and oranges.

My signature is based around Pandemic. No wonder I have so many black spots on my nose (here I thought it was poor hygiene).

I kinda dig these songs but because of these (Disruptr, Gato, Heaven's end (or Send)) I don't dig Ki as much as I dig the 3 others DTP records.
The flow of the album is kinda disrupted (pun Oh SO intended) by these making it a weird album to listen to.
When I want to take a walk late at night, songs like coast, terminal, winter, ki are just plain perfect but as a ''full-record'' kinda guy I can't skip songs so yeah.
Anyone feels like this about Ki ?

I'm in the non skipping camp as well. There are certainly artists I do skip songs of, and as others have mentioned there are days I go to a specific track or couple of tracks if I really want to hear those tunes. But most times I'll listen to an album of his for its entirety. Also why does everyone skip Tall Latte? hahaha I love that track.

Can you elaborate more on the "internal happy-vibe" phenomenon? I know most of SYL's catalog is pretty angry, but listening to it does nothing but make me happy a nd smile, and occasionally headbang. Same with Deadhead and Suicide. I consider those two to be the highlights of the album.

Every song on your list I'd keep. Variety is the spice of life, or something like that.

Generally the last thing that I listen to gets stuck in my head on repeat for quite a while, and often my mood definitely reflects whatever is going through my head. Say, if I'm at work or out and about or whatever and i'm not listening to music, often there's a song going on repeat in my head, and very often it's the last thing I listened to, something I've listened to a lot lately, or just something i listened to pretty recently that packs a punch in terms of emotional potency (not necessarily the character of the vibe, but just the intensity of it). SYL is a rush for sure, but I'm really not terribly fond of getting songs like Shitstorm and Love? stuck in my head for an hour at a time, if that makes sense  Likewise, I feel like my emotional state is like a sponge to the music that I'm listening to, so if I'm listening to uber-heavy and/or depressing music for at all too long, my mind tends to soak up the vibe of the music. I don't like feeling depressed, so I find it's way easier to control my mood if I control what's going into my senses.

As far as Deadhead/Suicide goes, they're great songs, and I guess I shouldn't say I have a problem with Deadhead on it's own because I do like the song, but Suicide is kind of a one-hit KO in terms of emotional kerfuckery for me, because lyrically it reminds me of problems I have to deal with sometimes (ie. refusing to enlighten my family on why I have different religious ideas than them, and what exactly it is I believe), and musically it's a little more depressing than I'm good at handling  I'd pry dig the hell out of it if I didn't relate so well in a lyrical sense, and if I wasn't as emotionally-receptive to music as I am. Deadhead almost seems like Suicide's sibling track, so I often ignore it.

In short, I'm not as metal as I think I am sometimes :D

Solo stuff:
Sunday Afternoon
Bend It Like Bender (I know, but it's still much too silly!)
Most of both Ass-Sordid Demos (Except Man, Ocean Machines, Red Tomorrow)
Love-Load (well, it's not a song he wrote per se anyways...)
The Mighty Masturbator (the build-up is too long)
Seams
Ants
Sister (only on very rare occasions, though!)
Happy Birthday (from the Official Bootleg - Except on Jed's birthday )
Devoid
Bonus Disk of digipack Ziltoid
Babysong
Tiny Tears

Hummer, DevLab & Project EKO: I usually don't skip songs - I like to hear them from beginning to the end.
I dunno with you guys, but I haven't included the DTP Compilation from InsideOut, the Live EP and the misc. outtakes he've uploaded (Terminal from NAMM, the first upload of DRENCH, the Frank Sinatra cover etc.), the YouTube stuff.

SYL-stuff:
Drizzlehell
Anti Product
Fucker (not every time)
Dirt Pride

The same goes with SYL - I haven't included C:enter:###, Download Festival, For Those Aboot To Rock and No Sleep, Tour EP from 2003...

Sunday Afternoon? You can't be serious dude! ;)

Babysong... yeah .. that one would be it. What the hell was wrong with him when he decided to put that one on a regular album? at least for the refrain... woosh. that's when my toenails start to curl

really the only songs i rarely listen to are (for the most part): loveload, secret song from physicist (forgotten i think?), secret song on terria (humble i think?), away, info dump, satan's icecream truck, remake of far beyond metal, aint never gonna win & demon league. don't listen to assorted demos too often but when i do, the only song i never listen to is the last one from ASD1.

man, why all the hate for N9? such a good song imo.

I actually really like "Babysong". I seem to be the only one that does, Dev included! I love the simplicity of the lyrics, stripped down to their most naked meaning. That's my ideal Devy guitar sound, more or less. And the guitar/piano interplay in the instrumental is lovely. Back when I first got into him, "Babysong" and "Deep Peace" were all I had and I'd play one after the after. Memories!

As for songs that I skip, there are a fair few. Like other people here, I either listen to entire albums or single songs, depending on what mood I'm in. If I'm listening to a full album, I'll usually let it go all the way through. But otherwise, I'll tend to just skip to my favourites.

Songs I almost always skip:

"The Death of Music" (controversial, I know, but I just don't 'get' it)
"Love-Load"
All of Physicist except "Material", "Kingdom" and sometimes "Jupiter"
"Olives" (as much as I love Terria, I tend to just jump in with "Mountain")
"Humble" (I consider "Stagnant" the end of the album, to be honest)
"N9" (and sometimes "Solar Winds"; I really have to be in the mood for it)
"Vampolka" (love the concept, but I'm just never in the mood for it)
"Ain't Never Gonna Win" and sometimes "Winter" (because they just slow the album down so much, and I tend to be on my feet when I listen to music)
"Pandemic" (it's my least favourite on Deconstruction, seems like the least 'complete' song)
"Infinite Ocean" (again, I'm usually walking when I listen to music, and this song... well, you know)

...I've set iTunes to skip the horrible scream at the end of Thing Beyond Things. :P
Every time that scream came up I went "AAAAAAAAH! YIPES! DAMN YOU, DEV!!!"

I like it, but only because of its "twist" to the dark vibe.

I love that scream! I was hearing it several times a day at one point. It played every time my metal-loving friend texted me. Got a bit grating after a while, though...
