Yo, guys, my name's Steve...and I think this is my first post, though I've been reading the forums for quite a while now...

Anyway, my attempt at ordering these (this is really hard):

1) Physicist - this album does something really special for me for whatever reason. It's hard to explain, but to me, this CD is just perfect all the way through.
2) Terria - beautiful
3) Accelerated Evolution - rockin'
4) Ziltoid the Omniscient - this album makes me happy :)
5) Ocean Machine - amazing
6) Synchestra - genius
7) Infinity - sometimes, this is number 1. But I have to be in the right mood.

1. Terria
The bestest thing that has ever happened in music. Period.

Now it gets harder :D

2. Accelerated Evolution
Umm.. an album full of very powerful and positive songs does it for me.

3. Ocean Machine
The last four songs (Regulator - Death of Music) is just plain awesomeness.

4. Synchestra
In paper this seems to be the perfect album, but there are some songs I just don't get. Again, the last four songs are awesome (Sunset - Sunshine).

5. Infinity
I have had this album only for couple of weeks, and so far I think that Truth, Christeen, Bad Devil, Wild Colonial Boy and Dynamics are the best. Let's see if I like this more after more listening...

6. Ziltoid
Solar Winds, Hyperdrive and The Greys are in the group of best Devy songs ever. Rest of the album is also nice, but sometimes it's pretty heavy to listen it trough.

7. Physicist
The last HevyDevy album I bought, and have listened to it even less than to Infinity. Namaste, Material, Kingdom and Planet Rain are the best. Again, more listening.

Oh, and this is my first post here. Hello, everybody! :)

There's something about ranking all the albums...I dunno...it just seems weird to me. I'll just discuss them in the order that I've listened to/bought them.

Ocean Machine - The one that introduced me to the world of Devin's solo stuff. The whole "one song" flow that the cd had blew me away the first time I listened to it. Plus, it has one of the most epic songs I still believe to be one of the heaviest Dev songs I've heard yet...Bastard. Each song has its own personality, as usual with the Dev's albums, but this album always seemed different for me.

Infinity - Another tasty collection of tunes, Infinity never really latched on as much as it had for others on the forum. It kinda loses me toward the middle, only to pick me up again as it approaches its end. The album seems like one of the most diverse-sounding collection of songs out of any Dev album (just compare the first four...and the awesome porn-groovish "Noisy Pink Bubbles"), so that immortalized it in my music library.

Accelerated Evolution - This album is so approachable! I find that Acc. Evo. and Infinity share that same vibe, with this album being the more...uh, "top 40" of the two, I guess (if that's even possible for Mr. Townsend). This album is more concentrated and focused emotionally, I feel. While OM was the first full album I heard, "Depth Charge" was the first song I heard of DT/DTB, and I was hooked instantly. The echoes...the grooves...the atmospheres...really good production, as well. Another plus to this album is how it has different "moods" if you will. Pissed or depressed? "Depth Charge" or "Deadhead." Happy and seeking self-actualization? "Away" or "Slow Me Down." Hell, this cd was worth buying for the outro chorus to "Storm" alone. Project Eko was pretty sweet, too.

Ziltoid the Omniscient - Armed with a cool concept, total creative freedom, and a drum machine program, Devin Townsend totally delivered with this one. I've even gotten a few friends addicted to Devin's work with the aid of this album. I always enjoy the way the story waxes and wanes out of humorous and serious tones and moods, and just how well this album could transfer over to a movie soundtrack! I always envision the story unfolding in my mind as the album progresses, and yet, if I don't listen to album in one sitting, each song stands on its own, especially "Hyperdrive" and "N9." The intro to "Color Your World" is one of my favorite DT riffs, btw.

Terria - What's to say that hasn't already been said? The album I try to listen to in one sitting the most out of all the DT/DTB albums, it starts so soft and peaceful only to build into the pulsing bass drums kicks and bright-yet-chunky guitar riffs. There is just so much to take in with this album. Not one I go for if I'm in need of a quick Dev-tune fix, but if I know I'm going to be chilling out and have a pair of headphones handy, this album is perfect. I'd comment about some of the songs on the album, but I don't want to extend this paragraph by ten times its size. Basically, this is one fucking good album. Oh, and "Universal" is amazing!

Synchestra - My most recently acquired Dev album. Again, the one-song concept is a tasty characteristic to this cd, but it definitely has tracks that stand very high above the rest. Mainly, "Triumph," "Vampira," and "Gaia." Though, I usually only listen to those songs with their respective intro-tunes. Similar to Infinity, I kind of lose a little interest with the songs toward the middle, which kinda drag on without introducing any extremely memorable melodies (imo), but as the album comes closer to its end, I am drawn back in.

And to quickly include SYL:
HAARHT - First two songs are pure amazement, "Drizzlehell" isn't too bad, and the bonus tunes are pretty solid, too.
City - He asked me to play that stupid piece of shit. And with my cd player/mp3 player...I did. Repeatedly. 8)
Alien - First SYL cd I bought. Freakin' awesome...heavy and dark as hell. This album scared me, and still kinda does.

1. Ocean Machine
This album still amazes me from start to finish. There are no big strong track/weak track differences for me; it's all incredible. "Funeral" is my all-time favorite DTB song.
2. Synchestra
First DTB I heard. Took me awhile to get into it, & then I was obsessed with it. 2nd half of this album is astonishing, especially "Pixellate".
3. Accelerated Evolution
Another one that maintains a super high quality standard from start to end. Standouts for me are Storm, Deadhead, Suicide, & Sunday Afternoon. I can sit with my guitar & play the main riff to Suicide over, & over, & over, & over. Love it.
4. Infinity
This one comes in over Terria for me based on the last three songs; I only wish the first section of Dynamics was, like, 5 minutes longer! :D
5. Terria
This one never gelled with me much. I like it, but none of the songs get to me like the other albums. I like Down & Under & Tiny Tears the best.
6. Physicist
This one...I never know what to do with it. It's sort of between DTB & SYL to my ears. I like Kingdom, Irish Maiden, & Planet Rain the most, but when I want DTB, this one never really comes to mind.

I leave Ziltoid off because I haven't listened to it enough yet to comment.
