The place to speak about Dev's current projects, and everything yet to come

I have no friends, except for some of you lucky people. Though one of my work colleagues asked me to make a "Best Of" compilation for him, but all he ever listens to is Oasis so I don't hold out much hope. My mum likes Ghost though so that's a good start but she wont go any heavier than that yet, so a softly-softly approach is needed. Luckily, my bloke is a massive Dev-head already so that's one less to introduce awesome to. :)

Tried for the first time (second if you count Prex but she was already into SYL so maybe not...) last night and couldn't really handle it at all. I was telling my buddy Ronan, who probably has the closest music taste to me out of everyone I know, about him but I didn't really know how to go about really summing it up. Tried a few songs and the general feeling was he liked the music but wasn't instantly cracked on the vocals. I know for a fact that nobody else I know would even have the slightest iota of an interest so I just don't bother, really. It's quite intimidating getting into Devin, really. When I first heard him as an impressionable teenage pile of putty it took a long while to get used to the varying styles and sounds that abound throughout the back catalogue, and it's not like he's become any more settled since 2006 either so.. yeah. Probably the first and last time I'll ever have to try anyway.

Jesus he actually looks a shit-lot like him.

But no, Ronan Keating stopped talking to me after that whole Stephen Gately thing. Who knew fellatio-sleep-rape could cause heart palpitations that would lead to a pulmonary oedema, eh? Not me anyway. Ah well. Jan Moir had some fun with it at least.

I think everyone I know knows Devin Townsend on some extent. Do they all appreciate it ? None of them is a fanboy like me but I'd say that my 3 other bandmates dig his stuff a whole bunch. Couple of friends really love it, more of the mellow side I'd say while my metalheads friends don't seem to like the Hevy stuff because of its weirdness or over-aggressivity (SYL). So yeah, I got a couple of people to love his stuff. I'm doing my best Dev ! I swear !

A friend of mine who doesn't like metal at ALL was forced to listen to the song Deconstruction (by me). She did laugh a few times and said : I understand that he's a genius but I don't like the music.

So far, I've had absolutely zero luck getting any of my real-life friends or family into Devy. My mom and I play Rock Band 3 a lot, which I have the entire Ziltoid album downloaded for, so for her first exposure to Devin, we played Hyperdrive and Solar Winds (Random Setlist, I personally would have picked Color Your World in place of Solar Winds, but whatever). She thought it was emo and hated it. Subsequently, I realized that her taste in music was absolute shit and stopped caring, deciding to save Devin for those who are worthy.

Online, however, I've gotten a few of my internet friends into DTP, mostly through Pandemic and The Mighty Masturbator. One friend in particular was already familiar with SYL (even though it was only one song - You Suck), so introducing the rest of Devin's catalogue was pretty easy. I have another friend who's pretty calm, likes calm and soothing music and the like, who I introduced to Ghost, and he loves it so far. I've yet to introduce him to, say, Terria, but when the time is right...

I've snuck some Dev onto the ops floor (operations floor. A large, open area where 12-15 forecasters work) and given a few CDs to people. (I bought extra Ki CDs sometime back.) I've got a couple of converts so far.. :D

Still working hard on this one. But then again, I don't really have many human friends. Do my kitties count?

I'm like Billy on this one. Stopped recommending music to friends and family a long time ago.
