Thanks dude...
Yeah, it's a dual edge sword kinda thing...
If I hang backstage after a gig, (like I probably would prefer to, considering the energy that goes into a show), you risk being viewed as an aloof, elitist musician prick.
However, if you go out and talk, you have to deal with the odd neurotic goons, fortunately, that usually makes up one to two % of people a night, the rest just want to say 'hey' and are really cool
...And really, at this point... I'm just re-establishing myself and it makes a lot of sense for me at this point to get out there and talk. Will that be forever? No, probably not at all... at some point, if the shows get to the size and point I'm hoping, the energy will best best spent preparing for performance and then decompressing.
Right now, I'll sometimes do 2 hours on stage, an hour after the show, and every interview and in-store I can.
I want people to see me as a normal dude, and dispelling illusions can best be done at this point by direct interaction.
Please understand that there is no 'altruism' to it either, I'm doing it because I generally enjoy chatting... I'm not doing it to fluff the ego or anything, I love the music and want it to be the best it can be for myself and the listeners. Interacting helps me understand it all better.
I realize most people who come up are normal, fairly well adjusted, music fans that are just as, or moreso, intelligent than me, reacting to stuff in the music in similar ways that I do.
...havin' fun!
