The place to speak about Dev's current projects, and everything yet to come

The last artwork that made sense to me was Ziltoid. Ki seems like it's just toying with the 3D thing, Addicted was a general statement on SYL, DTB and DTP, this Ghost thing only reminds me of Synchestra (like it could've been a second choice for that album).

But to badly paraphrase Fjar: as long as the music's good it could be wrapped in dog turds for all I care. :)

Haha, yes, that's pretty much what I meant.

But to kind of elaborate, I feel like Ki and Addicted were more detailed, and complemented eachother, but Ghost seems to simple. I dunno. I don't know the whole process behind the design. But it's like Ki and Addicted belong to one half, and Ghost (and perhaps Deconstruction) will 'look' like another half.

Still very very very excited to buy it and listen to it, don't get me wrong. 8)

clearly, Dev picks the slipcase covers because he intends them to convey something about the albums (he seems like the kind of guy now who would admit otherwise). one of the things i like most about his music and the visual side of his stuff is that it's generally vague enough to mean what you want it to.

for instance, the 3D thing for Ki portrays the depth of the record. it's like when Citizen Kane developed the "deep space" camera focus technique; i listen to Ki and i hear the music and the space all around it. similarly, i look at the 3D cover on the slipcase and i see all the complication of the design popping out - i.e. the layered music - but also the black space behind and between it (i.e. the atmosphere and "air" of the music).

Addicted, first and foremost, has a very simple cover, and i see that as an open, obvious admission to the content of the record: the songs are simple, and it's a simple collection of songs (similar to the music and cover of Accelerated Evolution, really). i automatically see the crayons as the SYL/DTB/DTP thing Dev pointed out, but one could twist that lots of different ways without knowing that intention (or ignoring that intention).

the cover of Ghost brings obvious conjurings about nature, but not in a general sense: the fact that the DTP logo is constructed very specifically with thin sticks and the background is such a close zoom of a leaf says, to me, that the intended sound of the record is analogous to the richness and texture of natural things, the kind of bits and feelings one gets when examining natural things up close and in detail. this is a kind of opposition to Ki, where the "deep space" idea i mentioned is a kind of generalized, zoomed-out version of this idea. it's another way of linking the bookends of the DTP sequence besides the fact that they're quiet.

i'm sure there's all kinds of stuff you can do with the lyrics of the records as well, but i'm more of a musically-focused kind of listener.

That's quite an insight, and a true one at that.
It wasn't what I expected for sure, but I think the actual album cover will be a little darker, and, well, Ghost-like.

I really don´t like the slipcase ... but it´s all about the music, it´s sad beacause the art tends to complement the music, and gives you like another view of the music, but anyway, I still want this album now haha

Well STATIC2 did quite an insight of the cover meanings but what I think when I say that I don't like the slipcase is that I'm referring only on the visual "impact". I am aware of it's meaning but I don't like the final look. I will not be 100% honest if I say that what only matters is music after all 'cause I like to see a nice and beautiful cover and booklet that reveals (unwrapps) the story.

Devin said long ago when he thinks of Ghost all that comes to mind is nature.
I love this slipcase, can't wait to see the full artwork.
