Hi Tracy! I was wondering: What is Devin's vocal range? Like, octaves and tones and stuff :P I don't know music theory for shit, but I do know that the bigger range, the better. And I'm betting Devin has quite some range, as he can do nearly every singing style. :)

Also I'm sorry if this have been asked before. I tried searching for a thread like this, but didn't find anything. :)

you're in the clear (with me), if anyone brings you up on that, flip 'em the v's and keep typing

If it's that important and they get shitty, tell 'em to put on wikipedia, otherwise I think a discussion is a discussion. You don't have to discuss it again if you discussed it last year sometime but anyone who wasn't there for that landmark moment should be free to do so.

I'll shut up now.

:D

yeah, if there were two ways of measuring vocal range devy's would cover both of them.

I predict this to be the new "chuck norris" thread...

I'm guessing Devin doesn't even know it himself, and just sings what fits the song.

Devy isn't an operatic like Dickinson or Dio, so it's not really helpful to "count the octaves." What makes Devy special is his ability to sing in at least four different metal voices and do them all very well with confidence and conviction. Clean, Growl, Scream, Peel Your Face Off Scream, Death Growl, etc.

Devy is invincible.

Wouldn't it just be easier to listen to Devin's music to find this out? I think Tracy has said before that she's knows little to nothing about music.

If I could tell from listening, wouldn't I have done that already? Since I know crap about such stuff, I'm asking the one closest to Devin. If Tracy doesn't know, then at least she has the opportunity to ask him. And if she doesn't, then I've at least tried.

Just find the song where Devin sings the highest, figure out the note and do the same for the lowest note. Would that work? It'd be an unofficial thing but hey, it's something.

It can certainly be done, but not by me. I don't know things like that.

Where does he use Death Growls?

Is it him that does them in "Pain" on the Ayreon album The Human Equation?
