Does anyone notice that at times with the two latest albums that whenever there's a really big boom, the mix sounds almost like it cant handle it, and it sort of creates a muffled effect? An example would be the huge boom at the entrance to the heavy part in Hypergeek. I was just wondering whether this was in fact because the mix is too loud to be able to field more sound or was it a desired effect? Anybody noticed this?
No, unless I have my EQ set to alot of bass, and my subwoofer on a high level.
Uh-oh, there was a HUGE debate over this about ten months ago, but I'm too lazy to look up the thread (the Official Synchestra Thread I think...).
It depends on the quality of your stereo. Seriously, my subwoofer on my PC doesnt pick up the big bass boom's as well as car stereo's, where its gigantic
Yeah i noticed the same thing on alien, but it's not to the same extent as TNB and Synchestra. Hmmmm... I may try this with headphones now...
And the response is still the same. I notice it even more in Almost Again when the blasts come in for the first time...

It's a mastering issue having to do with low frquencies and limiters. The lows eat up a ton of sonic energy and the limiter drops the volume on everything and lets off as the bass drop tapers off. I remember that old discussion, btw. It was a fun one. lol

Truth has some pretty big bass booms also though...not quite the same, but not far off!

I fucking LOVE those booms. My favorite one has to be right at the beginning of the first verse in Shitstorm, it's just a fucking explosion.
I notice a real huge one at the beginning on Gaia most of the time.
Bass booms are freakin' awesome...! They really add to the heaviness, as if Devin's music is tearing the world apart!
