Hey! guys

I just made tab with Devin's scales from this video(starts from 03:00):
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... 183165869#

It was only for my personal training but I will be glad if anyone will find this helpful.

BTW !!! Can someone check it(all scales) if I didn't make any mistakes? The video was pretty blurry at the beginning and I am not sure about 1st scale.

Under every tab I have also wrote fingers which are used for particular fret ;)

It is my 1st tab ever! well not real because they are only scales from the video. Nevertheless I feel happy because of it >:D

Looks good! I started using this tuning recently and absolutely love it, though it still can be tough not playing things that sound like ripoffs of Devin.

I agree, 'tis hard. Its like playing in opend minor and trying to tell myself that whatever I'm jamming on, its not opeth, even though they only used it on ghost reveries, if my mind corrects me.

But yeah, cool way to show the scales. Now to figure out the weird open c sweep picking positions he does in the synchestra bonus instructional cd..... I give up, haha.

Hang on, so your've started guitar a few months ago or whatever, and your've already started tabbing? Shit, your determined. I know I practised a lot in my first months but it only took a year till I actually learned to improvise and start learning solos. I don't know if thats normal or not but thats my say.

Devin shows every scale in his video I linked above. (there is also picture with frets etc which helped me a lot but numbers were weird sometimes so I had to watch Dev's fingers >:D . It was damn hard sometimes because he was moving his all fingers , but in actual fact he was using only 2/3 lol )

I just made it into the tabs because video was blurry and I couldn't focus >:D

I just simply watched the video few times and tried to see which finger is on which fret. After some minutes I wrote it all down in the txt file so I can memorize it faster.

I am happy that you like it.

I get my guitar in 14-18(I am not sure which day excatly).12.2009 so it will be 2 motnhs in few days.

I have started with the song "Truth" (I am almost able to play it proper till the moment with very fast picking and changing frets/sweeps; I don't know if it is a proper name for this) which I practice everyday.

After few days I have also started with some Steve Vai exercises
Code: Select allhttp://www.filefront.com/15474899/stevevai30hourpathtovirtuosoenlightenment.zip

Today I will add to my daily practice program:
-Devin's scales
-hard part from the song TRUTH (when I will learn this part I will be able to play whole song and I will master it everyday)
-another part from Steve Vai's (Figure 11)

I don't play too much, it is like 2-3 hours/day. My hand is weak, not stretched and my very short fingers hurt after 2hours.

and I am whatever 24/25years old? (GODDD with Devin's accent >:D)

Ah ok. I've only played for about 2 and a half years, haha I never had the time for tabbing but. I just learn by ear, and watch live videos and stuff like that dev one your talking about. Then I have the problems of the tuning of a song that I'm trying to learn off ear to deal with :? . Funny, I used to always tease young kids who start playing guitar, that if they continue playing when they're a teen, they'll be as much of a wanker shredder as those Vai's and Satriani's who picked their guitars up at about the same age. Now I don't think age is much an issue, more practising is the key here I've discovered, and patience.

Guys,

Just curious if you've noticed this about the open tunings. I got a flood of ideas for the first three or four months in open c but now I'm going back to regular tunings because I've run out of new ideas (or everything I do ends up sounding like Devin). Because of the very nature of the open tuning, I feel that the number of note combinations feels somewhat limited, especially for solos. It boggles my mind that Dev has been able to use this tuning for 15+ records and stay fresh each time. Admittedly he does recycle chord progressions, but he keeps the vocal lines and ambience rather unique so you don't really notice (and some bands like my beloved Iron Maiden have been using the same chord progression in nearly every song in their 30 year career so...whatever works! )

Just curious if you've been able to keep it fresh with your own music in this tuning...
