I entered a Devin Townsend cover song contest and decided to do the tune Suicide from Accelerated Evolution. I left some of the mistakes in tact since I am not a perfectionist (). I know that Devin's rhythm guitars aren't as gained out as mine but I did it to achieve a more "wet" tone. He uses tons of echos and reverbs and I don't have the outboard gear he does. I decided to clean boost (Maxon OD-9) the rhythm guitars to add some saturation to make up for the lack of space created by all of his echo and delay. No boosts were used for the leads other than my Dunlop Wah for the main solo.

Let me know if you want specifics on how I recorded it. It sounds best loud...so turn it up! I wasn't trying to emulate his sound but put my spin on it.

There are some issues with the levels throughout the song, especially in the latter half, and your bass drums are too loud for my liking.

Apart from that, I'd say it was an absolutely excellent job.

That is very, very impressive. Devin I'm sure would be proud with such a faithful cover, especially the solo!

I'll join the praises, that's damn good tone and execution. Solo is indeed, great.

The guitar tone is really cool, I love it! The clean guitar parts aren't as great though. And why aren't you singing? Don't make me add vocals...

Nice job dude, really enjoyed your playing, niceley executed! I'd love get the basic tracks and have a go a mastering it for you sometime.

It's a good cover, and very faithful to the original, but maybe too faithful? The instrumentation is exactly the same. I mean, at least if I listen to the original I get vocals and better production, drums, etc.

What were the guidelines of the contest, were you supposed to do a direct cover or your own interpretation?
