My 5-string bass guitar just came in on Tuesday.
Bubinga body, 24-fret short-scale maple neck w/rosewood fretboard, Wilkinson active electronics with bass/treble boost/cut controls.
Here are some (huge) pictures of the lovely instrument:
Body close-up
Flat view of the body (top)

Purty wall shot
Wood on wood (no not that, weirdo)
Headstock
Sorry, I just love the wood grain there

I'm quite happy with it so far. There's a few issues, but mostly minor ones-- there's a fuckton of fret buzz going on, but nothing a fresh set-up won't fix. Considering how far it came, I was pretty surprised to see that the neck was dead-on and the thing was actually pretty close to being in tune. After coming all that way, still mostly in tune right out of the box (just a cardboard box, not even a case). Oh yeah.

The A and B strings also seems a little dead (duller and quieter than the rest), but I think that's to do with the pickups since it goes away when unplugged. Gotta have that looked at.

Otherwise, I am in love with this instrument. God, bass is so much fun, especially having a lowwwwwww b stringgggg.

Whoa, 4 megs for photo. Couldn't you jpg-ify them? .png isn't the best format for photo stuff, actually it's pretty awful for it.

Where did it come from? It's quite popular brand here. Rather neatly priced, especially considering all this Wilkinson stuff.

Ack! Sorry about that. Usually I use pngs but selectively reduce the colors; I forgot to do that this time, so yeah, they're bloody huge. I'll fix that shortly. :p

I think this one came from a warehouse somewhere in the U.S... Though it might've been from overseas, I'm not actually sure. That might make more sense, considering how long it took (just over a month).

Also, a quick little cover of Megadeth's Dawn Patrol to test this beast out on recordings:

Looks sweet, I want one. :)

As for the dull B and A, maybe try cooking them? If the strings aren't new, that is.

If won't help they at least will be tasty (cook with tuna for better tuning).

Sorry... Cooking? :)

BrunoN: It's just run through my guitar setup (I record at quiet volumes, so no danger of the bass blowing the speaker), which is an old Fender Frontman 15 watt practice amp with a tiny little 10 watt Yamaha as the speaker, lined through the Fender's headphone jack (its speaker is dead; its electronics now reside in a fancy wood case). Somehow sounds magical. My mic is just a relatively cheap Sony F-V420 dynamic coil.

Yup. I used to read about that in the early 90's when guitarists would talk about boiling their strings in "Guitar For The Practicing Musician" magazine.
