I read quite the whole thing and ... I'm so sad because I could not find nowhere the things I was looking for...

The thing is ... I love so much the Sound of devin (that incredibly saturated yet precise distorsion...)but I don't have a clue about what devin uses.

It could be a good idea (unless somedy did that somewhere else, and then I deserve to die ^^) to post the amps and effects that Devin uses on some of his CD's.

For example ... How does he make that friggin solo-lead- sound on deep peace (Infinity) ?? I read on wiki that DT used to play on a 5150 peavey ... ?

Any helps would be appreciated.

There's a few topics about this subject already, and I'm sure someone is going to post the links.

But to answer your question a little bit...
Devin indeed uses a Peavey 5150, but also a Mesa Dual Rectifier. Both Peavey and Mesa Boogie cabinets too.
His guitar sound is processed through Digitech 19" multifx processor, where he uses the stereo delays and reverbs frequently. I've also heard rumors he uses a TC Electronic G-Major, but I'll have to check the Synchestra DVD again for that.
Unlike the taste of most guitar player he doesn't use a lot of mid-range frequencies in his sound.
On Terria he recorded with a Fender Strat a lot, and Infinity was almost completely done on a ESP Ron Wood Signature with EMG 91 pickups, if I'm not mistaken.
Every record has a different sound, because the producers change, and Devin also learns new tricks on every release.

And ofcourse, never forget, sound is in your fingers, so everyone will sound different playing through his settings or on his guitars.

Keep in mind that he also uses a Roland GP100, which pops quite a bit

Edit: I always thought that he used an ESP EX model guitar on Infinity? Maybe Im thinking of something else

I saw indeed the stratocaster on a video on youtube. I was quite impressed though, because even with singlecoils he's able to have that nice saturated and smooth sound with that incredible surround (not only the delay).

I have the strat, and the mesa comes this afternoon ^^ I just need to borrow devin's fingers and I'll be able to play that deep peace masterpiece like he does ^^

Infinity was done completely on an ESP Ron Wood tele with EMG-81 pickups (I think he might have had a couple different versions of the same basic guitar).

To me, the tones on the album sound almost exclusively like his Roland GP100 and not the 5150.

And by the way, most of the Strats Dev plays have a Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates humbucker in the bridge. I believe one of them has a Fernandes sustainer in the neck.

The ESP EX guitar was used on much of the SYL (s/t) tours. Before that he used a variety of ESP EXP guitars for touring and recording with SYL.

It was the stock bridge pickup on the fat strats at the time.

Duncans are good stuff. The Pearly Gates was actually modeled after a pickup in one of Billy Gibbons' (ZZ Top) old Les Pauls, if I remember correctly.

He replaces the bridge/fretboard for those that allow for humbuckers. That or they are custom.
