Hey there guys and gals - and guitar enthusiasts alike! Here's a quickie for ye to ponder...

...i just bought myself an LTD explorer...the EX400 model. It sounds farking amazing!...but here's what i discovered...

usually...guitars have a really heavy body...and when you wear the guitar on a strap...it sits fine. I've noticed with the explorer that when i wear the guitar with a strap...the neck has a tendency to angle towards the floor because most of the weight is around the point where the neck meets the first pickup. So i can't take my left hand of the guitar for fear it will just hit the floor...

...i watched a few other bands with them...SYL, Machine Head, In Flames, Metallica...etc...and noticed that they didn't really experience that problem

any help? any other explorer players?

Nice looking guitar. If you find that it is a bit neck heavy you could try moving the back strap button up a little, or the front one down a bit. What kind of strap are you using - a leather one with plenty of friction would 'catch' on your shoulder much better than a super smooth nylon strap.

I have the same problem. I have 2 of the old explorer style and both of em do the same thing. As soon as you let your hand off the neck they wanna fall to the floor. I really love the look of those guitars but I actually stopped playing mine cause they are just so damn big and I would crash into walls every time I turned around. Good luck!

I think everyone has the same problem, James seems to lift the neck with his fretting hand constantly. I see some people loop guitar strap over a part of the guitar to balance it out. Maybe try something like that.

Thank you so much for the reassurance! I was a bit scared that maybe i got a dud! haha...i agree..they look amazing...which is why i bought one

Yeh, same deal here. I got a black EX-102 (think thats the number, Im at work, cant check)

Great to sit with when rested on left leg the neck comes up on the perfect angle so easlity access all frets.

But standing can be a bitch, I keep hitting walls, and if i lean over the neck dives toward the ground.

That is awesome! Not cos it shoots to the ground...but cos i'm not alone in this!

Dude! Think of the possibilities! You could just let the guitar go, have it swing down, and start tapping! That would look awesome.

maybe if you try repositioning that strap bolt on the bridge side of the guitar up (you got lots of room to move it up aswell cos of the shape)

i've got an epiphone thunderbird and it has the exact same trouble i got a thing called the squid which you attach to the inside of your strap and it stops your strap from slipping pretty effectively....

I dont know if this is a factor but i have the older hockey head style exp-300. It doesnt seem to suffer from the problem too much at all (i think its called being top heavy?) however it is a thru-neck. Sometimes it can happen when a cheaper or heavier wood has been used to make the neck. so its not balanced.

Guitars that look that cool dont always put comfort first either.
