Has there ever been an official statement released regarding the tuning on the song "Bastard" off Ocean Machine? It's definitely tuned to B, but I just wondered if it was in open B tuning or what...does anyone know?

No idea... Devinhas said at times that he can't remember the tuning, then I have read an approximation of it from another time, and I also heard on this forum that people reckon that DTB has played Bastard live, so I guess he knows what tuning it is, we might just have to ask him!

Argh, that's no fun! Thanks for the response, though!

It is in B, I always assumed Dev used his normal open C tuning (CGCGCE) tuned down 1/2 step to do it (B F# B F# B D#).

no it isn't in B. I believe it this one is actually down in G...I thought at one point it may have been GGCGCE

Interesting.... What makes you think that? I haven't tried playing along yet, are there way low notes or some shit?

I'm most sure that it isn't in G, the only thing Dev has done in G is the new Alien album. I've played along with the CD before and I'm 99.9% sure it's in B.

Well, I know one thing for sure, and that's that the first half of the song never goes below a low B.

Maybe it gets lower later and maybe he was tuned down farther and just never played lower than a B, but THE FACT REMAINS.

pretty sure it is lower than B though. I think we discussed this exact tuning on the old prostheta board.

Topic resurection^^
Still no idea of the exact tuning ?
No tab idea neither ?
Could the main riff be something like that ?
Or is there more dissonance or weird chords involved ?
There's so much atmosphere in this song ^_^

I just wonder if anyone will ever get a version of this song tabbed out/recorded or something, it's strange that this one song would be so hard to figure out considering it sounds so simple.

Hmm. I was gonna work that out too. I was just to busy at the time and forgot about it since. I have some free time on my hands these days so I might give it a whirl. Considering the Alien tabs I did early this year this one should be a piece of cake

This song is so layered with things other than guitar i have to wondering if the guitar part is even that interesting on its own at all.

I tabbed part of it once, it's very simple, I just wanted to be sure I had the tuning right in case there was something weird about it. The whole first half of it at least is easily playable in drop B, I haven't tried doing any of the second half.

I have asked Dev about the tuning of this song and he said he cant remember

Go figure. And just so there is no confusion DTB has never played Bastard live or in rehearsal.
