I'm curious what other guitarists on this forum use for equipment. This is my setup:

Dean Explorer with EMG 81's, or Jackson JS30KE with EMG 81's into
5150 signature model head on a Crate cab with
Roland GP-100 hooked into the effects section

I use D'Adarrio 10 - 52 strings, Dunlop Tortex 1.0 mm picks and Monster Cable instrument and speaker cables. Tuning is BEADF#B for the Dean, CGCGCE or CGCFAC for the Jackson.

If you can't tell, I've been going for the "City/Biomech" sound ever since I heard those albums. Oddly though, I've been using D'Adarrio 10 - 52 strings and Tortex 1.0 mm picks WAY before I heard any of Dev's music, so to find out he uses the same strings and picks was pretty cool. It was also sweet to learn that he uses Explorers, as I got my Dean because of Hetfield, since the black album pretty much introduced me to metal.

So, what do you guys use to express your musical creativity?

Ibanez RG 7620BK seven string electric or
Ibanez Artstar six string archtop

into

pedalboard:
Nobels Fuzz
Vox wah wah
Boss CE-2
Danelectro Rocky Roads Leslie simulator
Guyatone Flip Tube Echo
Danelectro Dan-Echo Tape Delay simulator

into

Mesa Boogie DC10 60-100 watt combo

from effects loop into

Digitech 2101 tube preamp with digital effects

into

Boss RC20XL Loop Station

and back into the Mesa

My picks are Dunlop Jazz IIs and my strings are Gibson Powerlines .60s with a high .010 added to the set. They don't make them anymore so I'll cry when my stock runs out and then I'll use Gibson Humbucker 10s with an added SIT .60.....

Wow I have an Ibanez RG 470 but I would like to know how to put some EMG 81/85s. Do you have to drill a hole to put a battery? Isn't that risky??

A lot of guitars which don't have active pickups do come with a battery compartment - you'd have to check. It all depends on the particular guitar and pickups, but most can be fitted - if in doubt though, just get a shop to do it - some of them will fit them for free with the purchase of your pickups.

You can get a battery compartment routed in, but in the Rg470s there's enough space in the tone/volume knob electronics compartment that you can just keep it safe in there.

P.S.

Tornio, your setup sounds awesome!

And how does it sound? I have the Rg470 with the original pickups (Infinity I think). How does it compare? I'm curious because not all guitar will sound good with a set of EMG 81/85s.

I like the sound better than the stock pickups by far, although I believe Ibanez guitars to be a combination of a really cool feeling neck surrounded by a really shitty guitar. The sound with the 81/85s are pretty good, then again its only opinion. Never hurts to try though.

Epiphone SG into GT5 into 90watt hartke bass amp.

However I do have unlimited access to my bro's JCM2000 stack. It doesn't go to 11 though.

Primarily I'm play bass but I love guitar.
