It's a riff I made for a forum competition, it's a little bit fast

oh and here's a jazz solo I slapped onto that for fun

Wow, it's a great riff! Simple (don't take this the wrong way...) fast action. Reminds me of Slayer.
I can't quite hear the solo that well, but what makes it jazzy in your 'eyes'?

Slow-moving with a bit different scale than usual and the tone :P but Jazz has so many different subgenres, so it's a bit vague.

Oh just FYI, that solo is not even meant to be there, I just recorded it there taking the piss off from one person that wanted me to put a solo into that one. So I didn't go the usual screeeching slayer style :P

Ahhh okay...I was gunna say, cuz it sounded completely thrown in and rediculous...I thought it actually ruined the riff :)

btw what did you record this with and what distortion unit/amp are you using? I like the sound of it...very smooth and clean.

And what drum machine?

Fuck just tell me everything you used heh

Engl Powerball on channel 3 (low lead), EQ at Low 4, Middle 9.5, Treble 8, Gain at 4
Engl Vintage 2x12" cab with Celestion V30 speakers

Recorded with Shure SM57 mic into Behringer MX602A mixer into SB Audigy 2 Line-In into Acid 4.0 Pro

Bass
Sequenced on Reason 2.5, post-processed with Sound Forge 7.0 and a tube distortion plugin from Acid 4.0 Pro standard plugin kit

Drums
Sequenced on Acid 4.0 Pro from various samples. Bass drum is self-made, snare is from Reason 2.5 with post-processing on it + 1 second decay reverb. Toms from Reason 2.5. Cymbals + hihat from http://www.sabian.com and other sources which I've forgotten. China crash sampled from Machine Head's song Down to None

Final mastering on Sound Forge 7.0 with some EQ tweaks and Wave Hammer applied on it.

.I thought it actually ruined the riff

Well, try the first link. It's just the riff with no solo :)

ah.. sweet Powerball. Engl makes the best amps ever, in my humble opinion.

I gotta tell ya I was interested in hearing an Engl...and it didnt disappoint with your recording there...

I'm trying to figure out if my XXX head is outputting some serious heavy distortion because I didnt bias the tubes or not...I find I lose voluume from time to time too...might be time to upgrade ;)
