Has anyone mentioned Tom Morello's sound? I think his tone is freaking awesome, especially when he uses the whammy pedal to get the octave lower ontop of that, it's so freaking fat!

I'd have to say Meshuugah's tone owns a lot too. I must say I'm quite the fan of the In Flames guitar tone as well.

One band that I honestly think couldn't get a better guitar sound though is Opeth. They have their shit sorted. Their guitars are so heavy yet you can hear EXACTLY what they are playing and how the two guitars work together is just genius.

Really? I have NEVER had a problem with my 5150. And if people are blowing fuses, they should seriously consider purchasing a Furman power conditioner. I have the PL-Plus Series II. I hear the Monster (as in Monster Cable) power conditioners are also pretty sweet.

And I'll definitely have to check out some guitar synths, then. The link you posted is for bass synth, though. Still, if that's all it takes to get that sound then holy hell, guitar synth here I come.

Opeth uses Laney amps, which are pretty sweet themselves, but their perfectly discernable tone, at least on Ghost Reveries, is thanks in gigantic part to Jens Bogren and his Fascination Street Studio. He's why the new Katatonia and Soilwork albums sound so damn clean and still retain all their heaviness.

Make fun of me all you want, here it is (for me):

1. Always was, always will be David Gilmour
-The kid's tone in the headcuttin' scene in "Crossroads", which Iwas either Steve Vai or Arlen Roth, depending on who you ask.
-Korn's "Freak On A Leash". Yes, really.
-"Sol Niger Within"-era Thordendal
-Anything Ty Tabor plays
-Anything Dev plays....dur!
-The solo from Level 42's "Something About You"...one hell of a tone
-From the Rush album "Counterparts", the song "Stick it Out"
-Anything from Dimebag
-Solo tone of Nuno Bettencourt
-Rhythm tone of Tony Iommi, James Hetfield and Eric Peterson
-Anything by Jeff Loomis
-Anything by Eric Gales

1. Devins guitar sound on "INFINITY".
I love all his work (Biomech, City and Infinity most),
but (for me) the guitar sound on Infinity is KILLER!

2. Josh Hommes (Kyuss) guitar sound on "Blues for the red sun".
Most dirty and raw rock sound ever.

3. The overall guitar sound of "Dismember".
It simply fuckin' skins you alive.

Trey Spruance - Faith no more (King for a day......)
This guitar tone goes hand in hand with the brilliant bass tone on that album. They work together perfectly.

Billy Corgan- Zero, just a fucking awesome tone!

James Hetfield - and justice for all. Great guitar tone. Did they play bass on that album?

Rob Zombie - Hellbilly deluxe. (Cant think of guitarists name).

Matt Belamy (MUSE) The guitar intro to the song "newborn" on the album "origins of symmetry". Very cool.

Dimebag - anything he did except damage plan. I jus didnt like his sound in that band.

That reminds me..."White Zombie - Astrocreep 2000". The tone and production on that album are crushing. I love it. Didn't care much for Rob Zombie's solo stuff too much.

I like Dave Gilmour (very crystal clean) on one end and Kyuss on the other (big fat warm and fuzzy). Definitely cannot look past Fredrick and I agree with bobby7777 in regards to rich ward... The new stuck mojo album is rat shit though...

Also love Trey Spruance's tones. Buckethead always sounds amazing...

OVERALL, everyone should check out a cat named jinmo http://www.myspace.com/jinmo

This guy is totally fucking surreal.

A guy called Mike Riggs. Also, it seems that Mark Matcho and Danny Lohner played some guitar parts on the album.

Mike Riggs hasn't done anything big, other than Hellbilly Deluxe and The Sinister Urge with Rob Zombie. Danny Lohner seems to be a guitarist for Nine Inch Nails. No info about Mark Matcho anywhere. I guess he's a studio session guitarist.

Devin Townsend, for the Rythmics and the sound of the solos.

Mickael Arkerfeldt & Peter Lindgren for the "originality" of the sound of lead guitar ( for a metal band ).

Brian May: A sound very personnal...

Chuck Schuldiner: i love the solo, the sound is powerfull.

Andreas Kisser: On Arise, Chaos A.D and Roots.

Kerry King: I prefer his tone from Jeff Hanneman.

Gojira: Huge guitars, listen the intro from "The haviest matter of the universe".

I love also the sound of Steve Hacket and Pain of Salvation.

hmm, in no particular order:

fredrik (meshuggah) [nothing/catch33 era]
dev (dtb)
pin (sikth)
suicmez (necrophagist) [epitaph era]

I'd die for those sounds, but I think I'll make do with a line 6 when I eventually get one

Ever heard of a Swedish band called Mustasch?

Check out "True Sounds Of The New West" and "Above All" - See, that's a cool tone! (for me at least)

Pepper Keenan's guitarsound in "NOLA" by Down!
