The question would be weather or not you can play lead normally and improv around scales in your normal tunning. If you can then you should just practice jamming in that tunning to a riff over and over until you feel comfortable in a couple of neck positions so you can move around the fretboard a bit when playing lead. Or just go where your mind tells you and then figure out the note patterns by trial and error.
