I was messing around with my Rocktron Xpression today and thought I would post a quick clip. This has no backing track, just guitar. I was trying to achieve a wet tone inspired by Devin's solo material. I love the tone he gets with his solo material. This is a song that I really like off of the Accelerated Evolution release.

I've got the Xpression running through the loop. I have the delay running at 800ms, a touch of compression and chorus to round it out. I am using my Schecter Hellraiser tuned to open C. I boosted the guitar signal with my Maxon OD-9.

What do you think? Would you change or add anything? By no means is this a killer clip (some useless wanking at the end of the clip as well), just looking for some feedback on wet guitar tones. I am somewhat new to this kind of thing.

Here is a clip of the actual song. I like the wet tone he gets on this tune:

EDIT

I have re-recorded the clip without the chorus effect. Let me know which you like better!

If anyone is interested I have re-re-recorded it again. This time I added a small amount of chorus again and reverb to add some depth back in. I also took the Maxon OD-9 out of the mix as well. It is straight Mark IV. I think this one is my favorite one out of all 3.

I'd say the second one, actually. The others sound too 'smooth' if that makes sense. Not quite enough crunch.

One thing I would suggest is that you turn the bass down on your amp; if it's already pretty low, maybe take an EQ to the recording and hack off some low end. Ideally the palm mutes shouldn't spike so much, a lot of the low end 'chug' should be the bass guitar's job.

Sounds good though. :)

I'm not much for chorus, so I'd say the second one too.

Also, what I THINK Dev does, is run one amp clean, one amp dripping with delay. That way you get the clean guitar tone coming thru, with a lot of ambience as well.

yea, re-record it again, but run it with a ton of delay & compression. Set your feedback quite high & the delay level quite low. Thus creating a delay that is very In the mix, but not right up front. Try that, no chorus, no maxon, just the mesa & dripping wet chorus with a long decay/feedback.
