I'm trying to get a Cave In- Antenna sound by using only vst plugins. So far i've found out that the best one seems to be the free JCM900 simulator combined with a bit of Warp VST.

I've upped the mids to almost max to get a fuller sound and compressed the drums (too much) to get a harsher sound.

Here's a quick sample of Stained Silver. Any advice on how to make it sound better would be appreciated, or post your own wall of sound

SimulAnalog's free plugs are definitely the best VST sims out there; the TubeScreamer in front of the JCM with Channel B pushed to the max is easily the best distorted amp tone you can get in a PC. That includes Guitar Rig, Waves GTR, Amplitube (v1, anyway; we'll see about the forthcoming v2)... Simulanalog wins hands-down against the priciest software.
For the biggest "wall of sound", I've found that four or more layered tracks using slightly different tone settings on the JCM for each really thickens it up. I tend to have the hard-panned tracks have a fairly bright and crisp distortion, while another pair of takes, panned a little further in on either side, has the mids accentuated, with the lows cut a bit more to give the bass some room in the center.
Good tone on this one; it's definitely got that Simulanalog sound, i.e., it's difficult to tell whether the amp is real or fake. Which of course is a good thing. If I were to master it, I'd give the 5-10kHz a lift to open it up a bit more, and bump up the 10k+ area just a touch for some air, but it definitely works as a mix. Nice job.
One question, though: I remember hating Steinberg's Warp when I tried it; how is it used in this example? Perhaps I judged it too quickly.

Randy Rhoads used to pan one track to the right, one to the left and then one in the middle. The stereo effect meant that there was a fourth 'fake' track in the middle.

Jerry Cantrell used several different amps to achieve his thick sound - something bassy, something middy and something toppy. Play those at the same time and it thickens the sound up nicely. I think the guitarist from Phish started doing the same thing after hearing Cantrell's sound.

Quite a few people used to use a really distorted amp and a slightly distorted amp at the same time, which gives a bit of a snap with good sustain. Stevie Ray Vaughan is a good example, but listen to Nightrain from Appetite For Destruction.

I hated Warp too when I first tried it. It does sound quite fizzy and very harsh. I used 4 tracks of guitar, Hard left and right were JCM900 and 2 other tracks were more centered w/ Warp.

The key to Warp for me was basically putting the presence down to almost minimum.

The JCM900 tracks were also much louder in the mix, with the Warp tracks just complimenting. I still wouldn't use Warp on its own I don't think.

Eventually. It depends on how the sound is.
Go listen to the song you've duplicated.
If the guitars sound strange, like it sounds over-compressed or thin (I dunno how else to explain it...), try REPLACE/plug in a compressor or something. Somewhere in the plug in window, you'll see a sign: "Ø".
It is the phase reverser. Try click on it and listen again.

If it sounds better, then keep it that way. If it doesn't, the best advise would be that instead of copy and paste the track you've made, record another track...
