Hello anyone who thinks he/she can give me some advice (preferably Devin, of course, but I can dream on about that). I am, as everyone here a major Devin fan. He has been very inspiring for me as a vocalist. Dev's music has many times made me think "can you actually do that?" He has, alongside a couple of other artists and teachers made me want to look further into what you can do with your voice.

I'm a singer in a melodic death metal bad doing screams and growling 99% of the time. Outside the band i write other stuff containing "normal" singing. I have a quite deep voice, which sucks when you want to sing along favorite albums. I can sing a low F without any trouble and sometimes I've made D-flat making sense. On the other end I can reach a high G note, when feeling good and warmed up. This gives me a range of about 2.5 octaves. A couple of years ago I was into mastering a "german flasetto metal"-technique :P but none of my bands approved so i trashed it. When it comes to screaming and stuff I am making constant progress and my range is really good nowadays and I am constantly gaining power.

Now what I would want to learn how to master is combining the two styles, meeting halfway. Dev does it e.g. in the end of Storm, the chorus of Earth Day, the verses in Namaste and really high pitched in the end of Planet Rain and so on. It's really pretty much all over his catalouge. Another singer doing something like this is Hansi Kürsch of Blind Guardian.

This kind of scream-singing is as far as I can see something way beyond just having been drinking to much whiskey in kindergarten making you sound like Zakk Wylde (I like him too though) and I would really love some advices for my experiments.

Whoops... this one became quite long. Sorry. Hope to get just as long answers though.

Can't help you there, i've been in a death metal band for a couple of years too and I never attempt to approach anything Devin does. I'd say just keep practicing, even Dev has had a coach in the past from what I hear. If it took Devin practice to reach that voice, you can put in the hours and acheive it too.

Damn this is no help, COME ON DEVIN, HELP OUT!!
