Last night, I went to see Quebecois death metal bands, Martyr and Neuraxis (links at bottom of post), along with locals Vexen (can't find the link), and Gross Misconduct from Vancouver.
Now, I had no clue whatsoever that this guy was going to be here. But I went and talked to the bassist from Martyr, introduced myself, etc. after the first band was done. Voivod was playing through the PA - Brain Scan, actually - while the first band unloaded and the second band loaded on to the stage. So I mentioned how I love Voivod to the guy, as it's on the PA... and he tells me to look over at the guy behind the soundboard.
Guess who Martyr and Neuraxis' sound guy was? Jean-Yves "Blacky" Theriault, the original bassist for Voivod. So the bassist from Martyr, Francois, takes me over to him and introduces me, handshakes, talk for a minute or two, I mention my favourite band being Voivod. After that, I went and called my mom - and told her to bring my vinyl copies of Killing Technology and Rrroooaaarrr down when she comes to pick me up.
I now have signed (re-issue) vinyl albums of Killing Technology and Rrroooaaarrr, by Blacky. The guy who made me want to take up bass as a second instrument (which I have yet to have had the funds to do... but will eventually). On top of that, Gross Misconduct, Neuraxis (who dedicated a song to a guy who skipped his prom to show up), and Martyr all kicked ass - and I got to meet half of each band.
All in all, last night was defenitely the best concert I've been to... pretty much ever, and I highly doubt it'll get topped for a long time. And I met one of my heroes, and got to spend a good ten minutes talking to him. (Blacky is an awesome guy, btw. He was joking around with the Martyr guys that he signed two albums, and they didn't sign one.
