Is one allowed to be metal if they wear little Steven Wilson-style glasses? Or spent lots of time reading Lord of the Rings? And enjoy gardening, and taking pictures of said garden?

Seems more "nerd" than metal. I am wearing an Opeth sweatshirt though! That counts for something, surely. :)

I wear glasses too... i hate them, but cant afford contact lenses

Some people get away with glasses (Dev)... but i dont think i do

I'm proud of my hair though.. reaches my arse, apparently looks awesome when i Windmill :D

But anyway, Lord of the Rings is metal!

Enjoying nature is metal! (un-metal people vandalise nature)

And the Opeth shirt is good :)

haha, cool

I went to a Nile gig once, and there was some hardcore kid and his girlfriend...

The hardcore kid kept going in the 'mosh pit' during the support bands.. except it was just an open area cus nobody liked the bands enough.. and he was just in there, annoying people... he kept getting into a 'Mosh fight' with some random metalhead, though it was sorta embarrasing, cus the metalhead didnt really do much and if anything was doing the wrong thing, by not 'rising above' him...

But anyway, went Nile were about to come on and we all moved in closer, the kid (most likely older than me, lol) and his gf were behind me, and the girl actually said "I hate long hair"

...what the hell are you doing here?!

and her boyfriend kept pig squealing, it was really gay

Anyway, during the gig i was headbanging as always, and she actually grabbed my hair to stop me... stupid girl

She moved on though not long after though

I got sick of having long hair... was too much of a pain in the ass to deal with.

And most of the metalheads I know who aren't posers have glasses, somewhat ironically. :P

And... seriously. Lord of the Rings not being metal? Have you never listened to a Power Metal song in your life? (Rhapsody and Blind Guardian especially... :P)
Enjoying nature not being metal?
I point you to black metal. Forests, mountains, valleys, etc. make up 95% of the non-satanic black metal lyrics. :P

And I have glasses. Fairly Steven Wilson-esque ones, too. Though I've had them much longer than I knew who Wilson was...

Wow, you guys just made my day. Now that I think of it, there are all kinds of LOTR related band names like Gorgoroth, Burzum etc. Ha yeah gardens are pretty metal, huh? Digging in the dirt n shit, ripping out weeds... 8) \m/

Long hair is awesome. Definitely a good thing - screw lame concert go-ers who don't like your hair. But it's also understandable that long hair can be an ordeal; it's always blowing in your face and whatnot, the possibility of tangle-age. Rock the short hair since you have it, Grimview.

Yeah theres loads of bands with LOTR influenced names

Amon Amarth are probably one of the most well-known (that i know of... there might be other more famous metal bands i cant think of right now)

Blind Guardian have tonnes of middle-earth inspired songs and stuff (Nightfall in Middle-Earth album for example...), same with Summoning and Battlelore

I never read the books... only the first quarter of TFotR, and most of The Hobbit but never finished it...

But i love the films, and at one point had a massive craze over LOTR when i was younger... in 2003 when The Two Towers came out on DVD, so i was about 12... I used to wish so badly that it was real, lol

I must have watched that film on DVD about 20 times, cus i didn't have TFotR, and TRotK wasn't out yet...

I bleeeed metal! haha

Long hair, guitar player, always sportin a band shirt when I'm not working. Plus I keep a damn guitar pick on me everywhere I go, besides work..lol

I dont know if I'd like my hair to be any longer though, maybe a little but it is getting a little out of control from time to time.

Same here, except, i have a pick EVERYWHERE i go :P

Long hair isn't as hard work as most people say i dont think... i tie it up most of the time so its not TOO bad when its windy... the worst thing is after a shower, when it stays wet for like, 8 hours, unless i use a hair dryer, but i prefer leaving it to dry normally cus it goes more bushy if i do...

But thats hardly hard work is it?... walking around with damp hair, lol

3 of my friends have long hair, one of them grows it long then gets it cut a bit, then grows it long, then cuts it a bit again

I have the longest hair out of us 4 :D ... i have the longest hair for all males in my school, and beat quite a few females too, yay

You have to have long hair because you never know when someone may be tapeing you walking slow motion in high winds or you'll need to stand on a mountian side. Of only for those reasons you NEED long hair.

Since i joined here i noticed there seem to be more British people than i expected

Therefore, i would like to ask to all you Engl-tons, have you ever heard of Bloodstock Open Air?

Have you been before?
Now you know of it and will hopefully be opening a new tab/window and google-ing it as we speak, do you like the look of it?
(Line-up is still really early)
Also, check previous line-ups to get an idea of the kind of people who go there...

I think its the best Festival in England. Download sucks in my oppinion. I once payed £60 for ONE DAY, to see ONE BAND, for 20 MINUTES

...no idea why i did that

And on the next day... Dimmu Borgir, followed by Dream Theater, followed by Iron Maiden
What the hell was i thinking?!

But its never worth the price to me, cus there are never that many bands i want to see

But BOA has loads of "my kinda bands"... I've been every year since 2006, (so thats.. only 3 times lol), but i think its awesome
