I can't stop thinking about the universe and other life, just sitting out there. The fact that I will never see it sucks! Even though if I did see it, it would be too much for my feeble human brain to comprehend, and I would either go insane or die instantly. But still, It's a given that right now there are countless other complex species and societies out there, just waiting to be discovered. And I'm sure they're also trying to reach us. Fuck. I wanna see them, dammit! the universe is fucking endless, and I am so insignifigant nothing I will ever do will matter even slightly. Fuck.

I believe that scientists have figured out that the universe is not quite as endless as they once thought it was. Which has significantly decreased the possibility of extra terrestrial life.

That said, there is still a possibility of course, and it may not even be unlikely. But one shouldn't forget that 'extra terrestrial life' has by no means have to be similar to life as we know it. Aliens may look nothing like humans, or animals, or any other organism that we know. They may be incredibly large, or incredibly small. They may or may not be hostile. They may or may not carry all kinds of diseases that we can't cope with. All in all, they may or may not be interesting (for the ordinary people, I'm sure scientists will be interested in anything from outside this world), and they may or may not be good news for humanity.

I'm quite happy with the way it is now :)

Thats true but i saw a UFO 2 weeks ago so im pretty sure they exist :P the way i see it, if they wanted to harm us they would have already done that. Sightings have been going on for hundreds of years so i doubt they would just attack us out of the blue... or green... or black... or red.

What puzzles me the most is why, with all the progress made in video and photo technology, with all cheap DVs, HDs and WHatnots all Original Real Genuine UFO Footage (tm) still has quality of 20 year old VHS tape :).

It can be a bit overwhelming once you start to appreciate the scales of time and distance involved...but it also depends on your outlook.
As I found out more and more about The Universe (I've been taking a keen interest for over 30 years now  ) I came to the conclusion that, rather than be crushed by the enormity of Cosmology...I took time to reflect and appreciate that here I am: a member of a species evolved to be intelligent enough to question what those lights in the night sky are, and at least to live in a time when science is sufficiently advanced to answer more and more questions about it all. I love to be able (even as a middle-aged bloke) to still look up at night, and marvel...and to embrace the fact that I at least have a glimpse of what It All Is. :)

This is the beauty of it - you can never cease learning.
Could be worse...we could be pre-Renaissance, and still thinking everything orbited the Earth.

EDIT: Have a look in the youtube thread. :D

You're really fucked there. Having VP candidate who is both MILF and a creationist is biggest dilemma ever. Society must be confused.
