The person that was supposed to go with me to the Dream Theater/Opeth show this weekend backed out...so now I'm stuck going by myself to a show thats about 80 miles from where I live...I really hate doing that =/

I always wondered...is there a protocol on going to shows solo? I don't like to go alone simply because I dread the awkward 30-60 minute set-ups and breakdowns inbetween bands, but how many people here are dedicated enough to their bands of choice that they'd attend the show by themselves?

I always wondered...is there a protocol on going to shows solo? I don't like to go alone simply because I dread the awkward 30-60 minute set-ups and breakdowns inbetween bands, but how many people here are dedicated enough to their bands of choice that they'd attend the show by themselves?

Me, for example. I'm already shit at social life, adding my musical taste to that = I have to visit gigs by myself. My bro's going with me from time to time, since we had our tastes overlapping in few spots (Drum'n'Bass dude likes Riverside, can you believe it).

(I survive set-ups and soundchecks by drinking my beer very slowly and trying to look like I don't care at all.)

Think of it this way. When you go to a concert do you stand there and systematically look through the crowd around you and say to yourself, "That guy's here on his own! So' s that one and that one! My goodness what freaks! How dare they come here on their OWN, it shouldn't be allowed." I wouldn't think you give anything like that much thought. So likewise, they aren't thinking that of you. Relax.

But yeah, being sociable little people we like company to share the experience, so awkwardness is expected I guess.

The vocalists announced that they were going to quit a year ago, but the rest of the band were going to find new singers and go on. Guess not
