Is it really that much better with good cans ?

I was about to get some a few months ago but again the emptiness of my existence eventually kicked in to make me realise it might just be a lame attempt at feeling the void by spending some money on some material thing I didn't really need (breathe in), and I didn't got one.
On top of that I have tinnitus so repetitive headphone listening may not be a good idea. So I'm also thinking a 2.0 monitoring speakers could be a good idea (I want high fidelity, not a big ass sub that sinks the mids and takes a lot of space under my desk); but there are so many models, and so many reviews, and so many different and conflicting opinions (it seems easier to make peace between Israel and Palestine than to get a consensus between sound enthusiasts), and I gave up once again.

You gotta become a sound enthusiast yourself to find out what you want :D

I am not good with speakers and stuff, but there was a huge difference between the basic Koss Portapros, Sennheiser HD555 and the DT770. I love the bass in the DT770, because there's loads of it, but it's not too much, it's really rich and deep, compared to say, the Portapro which just sounds like it's boosting the bass. Another awesome thing with them is that they're completely closed, you can play SYL at full volume with the laptop and no sound at all will escape the cups of awesome. My language is weird today, hangover.

^ I have the HD 555 headphones, how would you compare them to that?

Everything else is poo. With the DT770, all instruments sound separate from eachother, the bass doesn't blend into one big soundsoup. It's just awesome.

Yep it sucks. The more you research your options the less you know. I was buying the headphones same style - ended up buying Grado SR60. Turned out every internet audiophile knew exactly how deep the bass was (in milimeteres) and which colour midrange has but none of them cared to notice the headphones have build quality of something out of Soviet Union. Thanks, internet. I also have Alesis monitors I've bought because of USB connectivity, where USB connectivity is next to useless.

Got used to them though. Filled void for a moment too.

IT'S LIKE DRIVING A SOFA.

We went down to Mammothfest with a boot full of booze for Breed77 to raise their spirits after getting their gear nicked on Friday, to find they were just about to cart their drummer off to hospital after having an unloading related accident D: They didn't get to perform, but they got to play with the car, so swings and roundabouts 8)
