There's been a young kangaroo sitting in my parent's front yard for the past 24 hours. They called a ranger over and he apparently said just leave it and it will go of its own accord. However it seems to have taken up residence. Mum's kind of freaking out about it, texting me and asking for advice, like I know what the hell to do with kangaroos other than to take photos of them and grill their steaks rare to medium rare.

So that's weird.

* Edit - So now I'm picturing a kangaroo joey driving away in a Honda Accord.

We decided to go to Oregon for a day - sick of all the sunshine. :P

Nothing but rain, mist and even snow up there - awesome. Of course, when we returned to California, the rain followed us the enitre time torrentially. Driving through windy mountain roads thick with redwoods and heavy rains for hours at a time brings to mind every horror movie you've seen all at once. We kept expecting to see Jason, Leatherface and the Howling werewolves to jump out of the woods at any moment. There was one tense moment where a pick-up truck tried to pass us and blew a tire, spinning to the the edge of the road. He stopped just in time, so we pulled over to help; good thing we did because a huge tanker came from around the curve at the same time, saw us then the other truck, and just avoided him. Sure as hell woke us all up. The pick-up guy was fine, though.

As much as I like Australia's landscape, it does not compare to the Pacific northwest to me. I'll have emo tears leaving, I'm sure. But my girlfriend will be meeting me at Melbourne airport - that will be a beautiful sight to see.

Yeah the US has some absolutely incredible landscapes, no doubt. Just stunning and so varied.

Can't touch our beaches though.

Got through customs without worry. Hooray, I can play a banned video game now, I've achieved something in life!

I can't wait to see the look on my girlfriend's face when I give her that toothbrush.

Sentiment is a weird thing... how trivial things can get these grandiose meanings and significances applied to them. Last night I went shopping at like half 7 and it was raining so I brought my umbrella, but this umbrella used to belong to my Grandad who died in 1998, and he had had it for like 20 years before that. So I came home and it was wet so I left it dripping outside the front door of my apartment and made dinner and sat around and went to the pub and when we came back it was gone, and was actually probably gone when we left to go the pub at 10 cos I didn't register it or I would've put in the apartment. So some prick visiting one of the other people in the building just took it when they were leaving, probably just thinking it wouldn't be a big deal cos it's just an umbrella. And it is just an umbrella... But I haven't slept cos I can't stop thinking about it and running over all the god-knows-how-many ways this ends up with me not getting it back and weighting those against the one shot I do have to get it back. I dunno. The thought of having to tell my Nan and my Mom that I was the one who lost something that we've had for nearly four decades is actually making me ill. Damn sentiment...

[/sad insomniac rant]
