This is something for mankind's self-reflection: the unbearable truth of criminal law is not that it defends the criminal and not the victim but that we live in a world where even criminals need protection from common people's (myself included) idea of justice.

Mankind learned that so it has its soulless cold institution named The Law, where different rules apply. Then again, sometimes justice can be done only by breaking the law, but the one who does that must accept the consequences.
