 Glad you like it. It is true. The worst sounds ever created were the result of people desperate to be original instead of just trying to develop a great sound and be themselves...ya know??

Really - your original sound comes from within YOU - not the genre or instrument you choose to play/massacre/meld/ whatever.

Exactly, it is something developed by the individual, not something that can be controlled, and it takes a really long time to develop that originality. To me, that's what makes Devin so amazing is that no-one else sounds like him.....of course, there are similarities in musical style, but he has that sound that's just him....I don't think anyone can say exactly what that is....and who knows, perhaps it is different things for different people :)

well i would say Devins music is apart of his child hood. The music he loved when he was young has all been create in his songs. Then hes inhanced the parts he remember/liked the most. Well thats how i see it. But i think we have go a bit of subject now lol.

Ye its good but dont worry about the orginality it will just come to u when u write more and more music.

Well...I'm not so sure it takes a long time to develop. I think it is always there. We all have a uniqe voice and a unique way of expression. What takes a long time is overcoming the pressures to sound a certain way. Most beginning musicians want to be associated with what they think is either the next big thing or THE big thing at the moment. That kind of thinking wipes out most of a persons potential for originality. On the otherhand, appreciating whatever it is you like but creating something YOU think sounds good IS originality. It's all in the thought process.

We all draw ideas from everything we hear and see. We all interpret what we hear and see differently, thus we express it differntly. It really bothers me when I listen to the music of people who are obsessed with originalty over anything else. It is contradictory because they look and sound EXACTLY like everyone else who is obsessed with being different (how is that possibe?? everyone that wants to be different ends up being the same??) Those same people say "guitar music has all been done before" and "there is nothing original about metal - I've heard it all". To me, that means that they are just incapable of original, creative thought. Sure, the guitar has been heard. double bass has been done. Cruchy guitar grooves have been heard. What has NOT EVER been heard is YOUR individual representation of what you think sounds best. Your manipulation of all the sounds available to you. You might as well say singing has been done, so why bother.

Sorry to go on this long rant, but recently I have been in contact with some people who told me "metal is dead, there is nothing left for it to say. I've moved on." To say the least I was offended, but in the end I said nothing. I just looked at them a little funny and asked what they moved on to. They "moved on" to Cold Play and Maroon 5. Not that I think they suck, they sound good I think, but still....... :?

The production sounds pretty good to me. I like the string sounds, and the drum sounds are good for this sort of music, but you were right in suggesting that there is a little too much reverb on the snare.

I don't like your bass sound; It's a bit gunky and thin on its own, and it isn't really present behind the guitars. The guitars sound great though, and your playing is good and tight.

As for the arrangement, it seems very start/stop to me but that could be your intention. Arrangement in a very personal thing, and I know that sometimes I have have start/stop bits to compliment what the lyrics are doing (I always tend to write music to existing lyrics) so just go with however you feel. As has been mentioned, I think that if you just make your music the way you hear it in your head then originality is less of a question, especially when you start getting into great detail.

Good work!

Hey thanks all!

Maiden, i used DFHS (drumkit from hell superior).. i am pretty happy with it, but it takes a shitload of plugins to make it sound more dynamic and better, since the drumsamples come dry out of the box...

Thanks.
