There's regular Stop & Search operations in the area, the coppers waste time searching folk who don't fit the stereotype otherwise the kids will kick up a stick about racism etc. But the fact of the matter is, places like Brixton, Croydon, Peckham, Streatham, Stockwell etc. All have problems with black youth gangs. If they're fed up of being filed under that category, then they should set a fucking example! My mate Asher's a 23-year old black guy from a single parent family in a towerblock in Peckham who knows true poverty; he's got a 2:1 in History from a top university, and goes to work in the city of London in a suit. So I either spend my time teaching, correcting or learning (so I can teach/correct) with an unhealthy amount of self-loathing for not knowing it beforehand. One more week (after the past 9) and I can finally move forward with my own project. I hope. Probably not.
