I may have picked up what you mean wrongly (and apologies if that's the case) but it still feels like you're saying that because you didn't like Ki as much as the more complicated stuff then it doesn't really count or isn't as worthy as part of his body of work?

I totally understand, given the breadth of style Devin works with over the years, that some folks may prefer one to another but to kind of dismiss "Ki" like that (whether liked or not) just seems more than a bit harsh?

As I say, maybe I'm misunderstanding what you mean - that's easily done when things like tone of voice etc are missing on a forum.

Lots of people dismiss music outside what they've deemed "the best genre", especially people into metal. I can go from one extreme - SYL, Arch Enemy, Soilwork, Sybreed, Disarmonia Mundi, etc - then the next moment be listening to Lilly Allen, Garth Brooks, Clint Black, Chumbawamba, Frank Sinatra etc - then listen to the Flashbulb, Ferry Corsten, DJ Tiesto, etc. Does this insane range of music make me badass? No. Does only listening to the "finest quality gothic industrial" make those people total badasses? No. I've learned to just ignore peoples opinions of music.

The phenomena is definitely worse in metal though, just look at youtube comments, which are sad in themselves - but seriously, 90% of comments are like "Man I love SYL, them and slipknot are like my fav bands!" then you get a response "LOL COMPARING SYL TO SLIPKNOT? WHAT ARE YOU A *#@!*# F@G? A NU-METAL BAND LIKE SLIPKNOT WILL NEVER BE AS EXTREME AS THE EXTREME I AM".

Point missed yeah, i liked Ki as much as the previous Dev's works, but it's just not Dev, i see how you guys may take what i'm saying, i'll receive response as "HEY MAN WHAT THA FUCK, KI RAAAAAAACKZZZ" and i don't care to hear it, i'm just saying what it is, Devin is that kind of music, again it DOESN'T mean that if Devin came out with some electronic lambada project i won't hear him, i would buy a record of him even if it's a recording of his farts and the noises he makes eating, but again, we know what Devin is, i know what Devin is, and Addicted is pure Townsend. If you don't like what i'm saying, is not my problem, i just wanted to say my oppinon, you can criticize it, is up to you, won't change my thoughts.

Eh, Devin recorded Ki, so I assume that's him.

I'm gonna have to disagree as well mushroom. Devin is whatever he does. It's got nothing to do with different styles. He has many of them.

(But yes, I get your point. Some of my friends think the same way)

That's ok folks, let's better prettend that i didn't say anything, Devin has made a lot of records with a certain essence on it tho, but, according to what you say, i guess it doesn't matter

Part of the reason for DTP, as I understand it and as Ki indicated, was to get away from the stuff he created in the past- to start anew. I think he had some reservations with Addicted because he thought it contained a little too much of "old Devy." So, you should probably get used to his records not containing that certain "essence" you speak of. By the way, I disagree, Ki does have the essence, it's just more subtle.

Yea I recall him saying addicted sound was geared towards more a tribute to his old sound + extra dance elements. Essence is in whatever he does..mushroom might wanna look up the definition of the word and try again.

About a month away from getting our preorders and still no leak. Thats impressive, the lockdown on this album. If I remember correctly Ki leaked almost 2 months before release. Excellent work buy all who have received their promos and not spread the goddamn shit out of them like a very soft butter. I thought I would snag the leak...but only a month lies between me and my uber order, I think I can wait. I am generally very inpatient but a month isn't really all that long, so yes, yes I shall wait. If I say different in the future, you are welcome to come my house and kick me in the taint.
