I felt exactly the same that night for a moment when my life was so good. I wrote about it 2 days ago. I realised one of my dreams that night and there is people on this globe who doesn't even have a chance to education. They deserve education to realise their dreams just as much as i do. It's so unfair. Should i be happy or should i not be happy? Im extremly happy to have the chances i have in my life and appreciate them very much.
I hope that post i made 2 days ago helped your thinking. At least a bit :D

The best songs (for me because it's depends on the person) of devin in term of emotions are...(not in order and a lot of excellent songs are missing) : Bastard, greeting, regulator, deep peace, canada, nobody's here, tiny tears, truth, storm, suicide, deadhead, away, sunday afternoon, soul driven cadillac, life is all dynamics, unity, noisy pink bubbles, seventh wave, night, hide nowhere, voices in the fan, funeral, the death of music, earth day, stagnant, the fluke, mountain, coast, terminal, gato, winter, lady helen, ki, quiet riot, kingdom, planet rain, triumph, baby song, mental tan, a simple lullaby, sunset, by your command, solar winds, N9, color your world, the greys, trainfire, ocean machines, promise, my girl, processional, sit in the mountain, ... And For the syl songs: all hail the new flesh, detox, spirituality, Imperial, two weeks, thalamus, zen, dire, consequence, aftermath, force fed, Almost again, new black... Aren't you using Superior 2.0? I noticed you did some presets for the Metal Foundry SDX so I assumed you'd upgraded hahah

You should compose a Sega 16-bit version of one of the songs from addicted for us to rock out to on Reason. haha

Something that syncs with the- Image "Power-Mince"

Anyways, I've written a few more tracks and removed a few tracks, believe it or not, it got a bit too heavy, or 'relentless' in a way that sounded a bit stretched thin emotionally. So I wrote a kind of 'ballad' called 'Ih-Ah' this morning (at about 4:30 am, I woke from a dream about me posting the song on the internet and loving it, then realizing it hadn't been written yet, so I got up and wrote it, lyrics and all...it's 6:41 am now and I'm going to the studio to record it.)

Interesting days, I feel very blessed, trying to live each day for the glory that each day is...I can walk, and I get to make music.

Woo! The 21st Century version of Paul McCartney writing "Yesterday" ? Didn't he wake up from a dream with the song intact?

But please say Bend it Like Bender is still on! I haven't even heard it, but damn, that title made me smile from ear to ear!

Damn I love that song. Yeah, I remember hearing Paul McCartney tell that story too, that he woke up with Yesterday pretty much complete in his head and assumed it was a song he'd heard somewhere, and couldn't believe that it wasn't when he was told otherwise. So he wrote it and recorded it, and kapow... a beautiful, timeless classic song via dreams. The brain is an amazing thing!

Given that you're going for more of a Nickelback feel for Addicted, are you using any kind of drum replacement or augmentation for this record, or sticking solely with Ryan's kit sounds and working the Devy magic? I know that adding sound library samples probably wasn't appropriate for Ki, but it strikes me that that's the kind of thing that people like the Randy Staubs, MIke Shipleys, Terry Dates and Jay Baumgardners of the world might do... Having said that, I don't think we're in any danger of getting a dodgy drum sound. :)

Soooo many sample libraries.... I know you're invested in Toontrack (btw, the Devin preset sounds pretty wicked). I use BFD2 for my own stuff, but there are a few other good ones, apparently the Steven Slate samples are pretty good (or so I've heard from a couple of people).

And if you don't want to answer in order to maintain the mystery, that's totally cool, just say "Fuck off, Ro."

Devy, spelled Devy! wrote:That's a cool track name, Ih-Ah.

Is there a story behind it?

You know, I listened to Ocean Machine today and when the track 3A.M. came on I remember reading somewhere that this song was written at 3a.m., like a rush of info and the sound of music in Dev's head produced this song in the middle of the night and he had to record it there and then or forget it.

I almost feel this is a weird coincidence as Addicted is supposed to be the new Ocean Machine of sorts and Dev has just written a song called Ih Ah. Funnily enough written at around 4 in the morning :o . Why not Ih Ah (4 A.M.) as it was written at roughly 4 a.m. and it is almost a weird nod to 3.am from the Ocean Machine record?

I dunno maybe im straying a bit from the general Addicted theme but that just came to me today and I just thought it would be rather cool as an ode to previous Devy works as is with parts of many Townsend songs. Just my two cents again anways.

Yeah that's my philosophy on life. Sure, life throws you a curve ball now and again, but as long as you have good friends, family, your health, and are doing something you enjoy doing, (or at least have more of those than not) then life is generally pretty good in my book.
If you keep that in mind, then the shit life throws at you is like water off a duck's back.

No one is happy 24/7, but we're all here for a finite amount of time, so spending too much time dwelling on the negative is a waste of resources in my opinion.

Agreed, which is why it pisses me off when I see people that have access to a free education piss it away and live a life of ignorance, when there are so many people in poorer countries that could turn those resources into gold. Such is life I guess.

Finally...!

I've been waiting for three days for someone to say that. Figured it might be you. :) So how's New York?

And regarding Devy's new song Ih-Ah, I'm going to go ahead and assume it doesn't have anything to do with the refrain from Cod Metal King. That's more of an Ee-Yah anyway.

Damn, I got predictable!

Yeah, I'm thinking Eeeh - Yah too. Man, it's been so long since I listened to that album! Gotta give it a spin some time soon. Thinking it'll sound pretty raw in places, but all the gold will all still be there.

New York's been as amazing as I thought it might be. Never seen a place like it... it would literally take someone a lifetime to experience everything here. I know Gerry Frank's sort of tried for his book (which I recommend for anyone coming to NYC for more than 2 or 3 days), but good lord... it's intense. Highlight of the day was chatting with the bad-ass chick who runs a second hand clothes store called Rags-a-go-go in Chelsea. She was a real character... one of those people you know you won't see again in your lifetime, but you kinda wish you could. Actually, there WERE some killer clothes in there... hmmm.

Wish my other half hadn't just changed the channel on the TV... my tolerance for explicit hardcore gay music videos is not infinite. The house music was pretty danceable, funky stuff though... maybe if I just close my eyes?

Off to MoMA tomorrow, very much looking forward to it. And if anyone from the forum is on the Manhattan side of the Hudson river watching the 4th of July fireworks, look for the tall guy with the mutton chops and say hi!

How are you going Ro? Drop me an email any time you like mate, always good to catch up (great to see you on the forum too!).

As well as can be expected with the small amount of sleep I've been getting. Twins going mental, they've well and truly hit the terrible 2s. Still awesome fun though.

Will send through a more detailed email to you soon. Enjoy the Museum!
