The place to speak about Dev's current projects, and everything yet to come

I thought it would be ideal to start up an actual thread for it.

I got confused with the previous thread, and I don't think I'm the only one who's in a fuddle with it either.

I've been racking my brains out over this, and I only have a few ideas to show for it. Street teaming is only something I've ever observed from a far. :P

Going from whats in the "spreading the word..." thread, I jsut kinda complied and did suggestions/explainations from there. :D Sorry if it feels like I've dumbed it down a lot, I tend to have to do that otherwise I manage to overload my own brain (Yeah, fail. )

-For the thing to be mainly internet based.

This I can totally understand, It's easy to spread word like wild fire through the internet, but by the same hand, don't write off how usual beign face to face with people can be too. It's also the advantage of spreading actual sound slightly easier too.

I think the "internet" section can be split off in to a few different sections it's self though. I'm guessing most people here are signed on to different forums, so I'd suggest anyone who is... You can guess where I'm going with that. ;)
Facebook is a powerful tool at the moment too. Perhaps in a way more-so than myspace. The disadvantage of Facebook though, would be the fact you can't get sound (as far as I know) But its like, update heaven on there, and so easy to contact a thousand people at once. I know there is already the "Ki and co" support page on there, but I think it may be a good idea to turn that into the actuall street teaming one, as it already has 300 or so members. I know probably half of those won't be active street teamers, but it's better than starting over again. (Or, at least I think so, obviously feel free with disagree/correct/etc on anthing I'm saying.)

The advantage of myspace however, is the strong musical community on there. I don't use it much myself, but I know that MTV 2 does a myspace chart, so think IF we could get enough people to get Devin into that, that would be a pretty awesome achievement. Advertising is also really easy on myspace. Quite a few times I've clicked on the "Featured profile" bit on there, and it /seems/ to be pretty open minded on who gets put on that. I mean, I've seen Kat Von D, Bam, a few metal things on there too. I have no idea how to feature profiles though, so if anyone does know, I think that would be great. (obviously, wait til the myspace in finished though.)

Twitter I realise can be a powerful tool at our disposal, espeically Dev if you would want to start up an account on there. I know you said you didn't know what it was on another thread, so I'll give a mini explaination. :D

It's basically a website, that allows you to type up how you feeling, in 140 characters. So it's sweet, short and to the point. You don't have to say anything personal or whatever on there, but I think if you are on there, saying silly little things like "Yes... Ki... Soon earthlings" people will do the whole domino effect on there, saying about how excited they are, and so on ( http://www.twitter.com )

I don't know much about Twitter myself, but anyone else who can explain it better wold be awesome (-cough- Biert? :P )

Youtube I think is so obvious I don't need to say anything on it, apart from, link people like crazy? :P

Okay, I think that's all the internet covered.

As for actual street work... As I said in another thread, creative works best. If you can think of the weirdest, yet awesomest thing that could promote, then go for it. I would suggest keeping it legal however. Don't want to send any law suits to Dev now. :P

Any free stuff to give away works well. So, Dev, if you could provide us with PDFs, that would be most awesome. From those, we can create badges, stickers, flyers, posters, t-shirts (maybe not to give out, but to wear whle handing out said gear.)

A free CD with a few demos songs I think could work really well. I was thinking the most popular song from each album would be good. Probably from DTB rather than SYL, but that can be discussed. A band I was really into (just not into that kinda thing musically now) Gave me a free CD and that's how I and quite alot of there fan base had heard about them. CD's are relativly cheap to reproduce now Ithink soo. (I'm sure there like packs of 10 in the 99p store here. :P )

If anyone here does any street performance type stuff, that would be cool too. However, rapid guess, I don't think many are?

But anyway, I /think/ that's the main bases covered.

Please do add anything, and tell me to update/make more sense of/just change everything I've written here if needs be! I'll keep this as up-to-date as I can! :D

Maybe some artists do Dev-related drawings/art-things on Deviant Art...?

For actual street work, putting flyers up on bulletin boards around your town, and putting posters or stickers in busy parts of town, are probably the best options. Handing flyers to individual people isn't likely to do a lot, but if you, say, slapped a sticker or a poster on a post at a cross walk, chances are, people would notice and at least read it, if not actually check it out. A lot of people actually find out about local shows through posters thrown up around town at the more well-used intersections... (I know because I put a lot of those posters up. :P)

Facebook is an incredibly powerful tool for promotion. I've seen events go from 0 to 500 people in the course of 24 hours... and I'm not talking about major events. :P 3 Inches of Blood and Evile playing a 450-capacity venue had 600 people planning to attend before the week was out, after the announcement...
So... yeah. Facebook could be very useful.

Also, if Dev sets up an Artist Profile on Facebook, artists can now put their songs up. Martyr did it.

Ah-ha! I didn't know Facebook now had artist profiles. How useful! :D Deviantart could be useful too actually. Have you typed Devin Townsend into the search bar on there? Quite a few fans on there.

Oh! I could start up one of those group things on there! They have journals too! I have a fair few watches who im friends with on my list too, I'm sure I can convert them over. 8)

Thanks for that Grimview! :D

Alucard, we have this facebook thing here http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=152658690592&ref=nf which has gathered quite a few. What I meant was, should we turn that into the Street Team, rather than I being called the "Ki- Devin Townsend" name it currently has? Seeign as it already has 355 members in err two days I think? I believe Auldj set that up. :D

I thought that was fan-run?

If it's run by Dev, cool, then. Adds to the tools already available. If not... maybe we should try to get in touch with whoever's running the page, and see if they're interested in working with all this stuff?

I set up a DA account, called Devin-Townsend-Team. I'll scour the website for the Devy fans on there and sent them notes, blahblabblah and we'll get a creative community going on there. :D Anyone who can help out with that obviously, do go ahead. I also set up an email for it which is devin.streetteam@yahoo.co.uk (Should of gone to .com but I didn't think about it at the time.)

Great idea, Amber. There's so many folk on DA who would be interested, I'll note a few myself in a mo.

Heehee. give the credit to GrimView! I jsut started it up cause I was like "OH! I CAN DO THIS! Probably!"

I hope you don't mind by the way Grim View! :D

I personally have prejudice against 4chan. Fair enough if you guys are on it though. Provided we get decents members from there, I won't complain.

Haha... I don't mind at all. I have a DevArt account, but my scanner is broken, so... nothing posted on it, unfortunately. :( So it's probably better that someone active on there runs it. :P

And I have a passion for hatred of 4chan.
But this is mainly due to the sheer number of Japanophile freakshows I've met who frequent the site. :P
