i totally agree on that fact... and the thing is that joey jordison is a truely fantastic drummer he jsut only shows it occasionaly in slipknot.
the percussionists i noticed actually enhance the sound more on cd than live (if you keep an ear out they're quite prominant).

i like slipknot (although not as much as rammstein) and they are really a marmite band :D

Personnally I like Corey's voice. He doesn't sing that much in clean vocals, but like him he's got this ability to switch progressively or not from clean vocals to screaming, and that's something I really like in music (metal) (well this show's mostly in volume 3, there was not many clean vocals in the previous albums).
And yup', overall they have their own sound, their songs are catchy, and quite good anyway (some bands are catchy but you get sick of 'em 3 days later^^).

I also like the whole live performance, with 9 guys on stage, there is no 'empty' moments, and I don't mind the mask, I was a big fan of Limp Bizkit's Wes Borland's paintface^^.
In fact my 'perfect' liveshow would be a mix of normal performance, and a bit more theatrical stuff with masks, costumes, background or something... I wish SYL & DTB could have a big light set-up programmed for each song and stuff like that, that would rule with epic songs.

Making it a bit more theatrical onstage and everything, that's fine by me. But Slipknot are just exagerrating, they wear their masks on interviews and everything. If someone takes a picture of them in public, without the mask, they try to hide their face or flip the photographer off. That's just pathetic, man.
I was surpised to see Jordison not wearing his mask on the Roadrunner United DVD. Although wearing that mask throughout the recording would have been a fucking pain in the ass.

Being so stringent about those photos certainly seems to have worked for them in terms of generating publicity though, hahaha

Slipknot members have been bezzing around with no masks quite freely for years...the DJ guy has his own project and wears no mask live, Joey has been in murderdolls with no mask on, Corey and Jim Root have been in Stone sour with no mask on, Clown/Craham has been in To My Surprise maskless, and the band seem to be on the verge of losing the masks judging from recent music videos and interviews...not that THEY HAVEN'T BEEN MASKLESS FOR YEARS...the other's just have no interesting things to do except get overweight and play in Slipknot and so aren't in the public eye.

Even that nose guy revealed his face publicly and announced a new band...wonder where that went.

Just my 2 cents.

First album IMHO- Had some catchy stuff but a lot of nu-metal filler
Iowa IMHO- Heading towards grindcore mixed with nu metal, pretty good.
Vol3 IMHO- The heavier tunes were ok but thought the mellow parts added a maturity to the band.

Regarding Rammstein (IMHO hehe) Check out the song "Mutter" totally epic.

How about the VERY first album? With the other singer?

Very Bungle, I like it more than the first MAINSTREAM album.

I used to dislike Ramstien, mainly because everywhere yuppies used to play their music only for the sole purpose of showing off their over customised car stereos.

But lately i like their newer stuff. I thought that : "We all Live In America" song was friggin hilarious. So i appreciate the tounge n cheek aspect :D

Wondar Bra !!

Mayhap a Rammstein thread would be a better place for this?

btw Slipknot have 4 albums
Mate feed kill repeat was before the current singer was in the band and it was an experimental thing. i find that to be better than all the last 3 put together

Yeah, songs about role playing games are pretty metal.

Anyone think that during 'Left Behind', Corey Taylor actually morphs into Dave Grohl to sing the chorus? First time I heard that I totally thought; Foo Fighters.

Theatricality is a great way to win over an audience, and mystery is one way to try and keep it. It's worked for Zeppelin, Manson, the Doors, Tool... the White Stripes.

I already mentioned this over in the similar (now locked for lack of civility) 'slipknot thread' over on the SYL board, but say what you will about them or their music. Slipknot are doing what Metallica did ten years before them and getting heaps of kids into metal.
